Well, Nimona had not expected nor cared for her birth father's reaction to Ballister. She held her ground, not backing down from his frankly laughable displays of dominance.

Nimona: You know, if you were a good person, you wouldn't need to attempt--rather pitifully, honestly--to control me to stay.

Crowd: (murmurs)

Chief: (snarls at her)

Nimona: (sarcastically) Oh, so scary. (seriously) Fucker, I've been shocked, shot, set on fire and stabbed, but I still managed to find a good human. If you think that your displays can frighten me, you're delusional.

Chief: (makes eye contact with her; shifts back) Very well. I will find this human so that I can kill him.

Nimona: (eye twitches) You monster!

Chief: Monster? You should be calling me your savior. You'll see that he's manipulating you soon enough.

Nimona: Savior? Wow, you're just as bad as Gloreth was.

Two shifters attempt to hold her down, but Nimona shifts into her dragon form. She knocks him down and flies off to find Ballister and Kayden. They needed to leave.

Meanwhile, at Camp...

Ballister: (hears rustling) Nimona? Kayden? (feels cloth around his face; claws at it)

Voice: Sh, sh! (as his body falls limp)

Kayden: (runs out and growls)

The figure is too fast and escapes with Ballister while attack dogs keep Kayden occupied. About an hour of losing shifter trackers later, Nimona shows up and scares the dogs away and interrogates Kayden.

Nimona: You let him get kidnapped?!

Kayden: It wasn't my fault that they sent attack dogs after me!

Nimona: Transform into a bigger animal, dipshit! Now I gotta go save him! Good thing that things with Daddy Dearest didn't work out.

Kayden watches as she sprouts bat wings and shoots away after the assailant. He hears the Chief roar in anger and makes a split-second decision.

Kayden: Well, I already left the camp to check on him once, and no one there really cares if I come back or not anyway. Nimona seems to know more about people and being shifters in the outside world than we do. Plus, it would piss of Nimona's big brother.

He had...his own reasons for wanting to hurt him. Stupid, bratty Nolan.

[A/N: Yes, his name is Nolan. Sorry if it says different in another chapter or if I left it too long. Also, I call their birth father Chief because while I thought about it, I haven't decided on a name for him. Should I give him one, or should it just stay 'Chief'? Anyway, on with this story.]

Nimona noticed pretty quickly that Kayden was following her. She couldn't slow her pace for him, however, as Ballister's life was hanging in the balance.

Nimona: Keep up, asshat. The world doesn't wait for anyone, least of all us.

Ballister's Captor...

Captor: I must hurry. Those things will be on my tail. I need to get him home. The King will pay me handsomely to get him back.

Ballister: (squirms and wriggles)

Captor: Oh, you're awake. We have a long journey ahead of us, Sir Ballister.

Ballister: (eyes shoot wide; struggles against bindings more)

Captor: Hey, don't worry, you're safe from that thing now.

Ballister: (glares at them, angrily)

Apparently, this kidnapper had done their homework and not only taken his sword, but his arm as well. His best chance was to wait for Nimona to rescue him...if she ever came back from her birth father.
