"They were g o n e. . ."
Flashback; August 1993 - Summer holidaysThe summer days were growing longer and longer, and the heat got worse and worse. Bathing in sweat — that's what Aurora was doing. They were supposed to get an air— conditioner this summer, but the people cancelled on them once again. Aurora felt like bashing their heads in for making her suffer in the heat.
It was late afternoon and Aurora was bored from reading books all day, so she decided to go wandering the streets of Little Whinging.
The horizon was hazy, and the summer air gave her nostalgia. The warm air still lingered around. Street after street, block after block, she kept walking. She found doing this made her relax and enjoy the beautiful earth she lived on.
She finally made it to a park. She made her way over to some swings and sat on them, admiring the view ahead. Gorgeous is the first word that came to her mind. She felt her mind drift off into her o w n l i t t l e w o r l d . . .
A sudden bark made her snap back to reality. She found a skinny, scruffy dog facing her, waging its tail at her excitedly.
"Hello there," Aurora said, looking down at the dog. She reached down and patted its head. The dog did a low woof, to tell her, he liked it. "You look like you've been through war." She added, examining the dog closely.
His ribs were showing, and his coat was a mess. The dog stilled and looked up at Aurora. She frowned. It was like he understood what she was saying.
"Sorry, sensitive topic." Aurora raised her hands in apology. The dog barked at her, making her laugh.
"Where did you come from, huh? Your owners are probably worried about you. Especially this late in the afternoon..." Aurora looked to the sky. Maybe she should take her own advice. The sun was setting, and the night was rising. She would need to go know as well.
"I think I should take my own advice." She mumbled, hopping off the swings. She looked to the sky and found the sun setting behind the orange haze.
"C'mon, I'll take you to my house." She said to the dog. The dog followed her excitedly. The walk back to her house took nearly half an hour. By the time she got back, darkness had crept behind her.
The dog followed her the whole way, barking at strangers nearby, to make them stay away from Aurora. Her new guard dog?
Aurora reached the door and went to open it but stopped when the dog barked. She turned around and saw the dog standing at the start of the driveway.
"C'mon. I'll get you cleaned up and some food into you." Aurora said to the dog, gesturing for it to follow her. It didn't. It just stared at her. Like he was admiring the human in front of him, it was strange honestly.
