MIDNIGHT FELT LIKE it took years to come. So Aurora wouldn't fall asleep, she started a new book. It was the first book of the Outlander series. Hermione had gotten it for her birthday last year, but Aurora had been putting off reading the books. They were so long. But she faced her fear and started it.
It was currently 10:50 pm and Aurora couldn't wait any longer. She hopped out of her bed, snuck quietly out of her room, and made her way down to the common room. Fortunately, no prefects were still down there so Aurora could sneak out freely through the hallways.
Aurora knew the castle back to front. She explored a lot. When she got the marauder's map, she spent her free time exploring the castle (yes even at night time). There was just so much to see. So many secret passageways. So many —
Aurora stopped in her spot. She didn't have the map on her, but she knew that Filch was around the corner. Aurora looked around, there were no broom closets to hide in, classrooms or secret entrances. She silently cursed. She could make a run for it, but then she'd alert Filch.
So Aurora did the most stupidest thing ever. She hid behind a piece of armour. Obvious to someone who looked properly, but to someone who wasn't...she hoped her plan worked. The armour had noticed her but didn't say anything.
Let's just say, Aurora has a lot of blackmail up her sleeves.
She heard Filch's footsteps, he seemed to be mumbling to himself about hanging students as punishment. Aurora rolled her eyes at his nonsense.
She then heard a purr that made Aurora froze. Mrs. Norris was with him. Aurora wanted to curse at herself. She had a grudge against that cat. Unfortunately, she had no blackmail up her sleeves for that cat. She held her breath, hoping that the cat wouldn't sense her.
Filch and Mrs. Norris walked passed the suit of armour that Aurora was hiding behind but then stopped.
"What is Mrs. Norris." Aurora heard Filch say to his cat. "Someone out of bed huh? Show yourself!" Filch snapped loudly at the end, nearly making Aurora jump and give away her hiding spot.
However, Aurora made no effort to reveal her hiding spot. The last thing she wanted was a detention on her first day back.
"Not going to show yourself then?" Filch said, the light of his lantern moving around. "Oh, you're in trouble."
I'm always in trouble, Aurora thought to herself. She then saw Filch's lantern slowly making its way towards her direction. In her mind, she cursed Mrs. Norris.
Then, out of nowhere, a rock was thrown at Filch. The echoes of the rock could be heard in the quiet hallway.
"Who was that? Where are you filthy—" Filch shrieked but another rock hit him.
