Lux thought she knew exactly how this cruise would go: two weeks of awkward family dinners, no cell service, and way too much time to overthink the silence from the boy who stopped choosing her. She planned to keep her head down, her heart guarded...

After last night's midnight snack adventure, Colt had gone back to his room and I had fallen asleep pretty much as soon as my head hit the pillow.
This morning, I was woken up by Lacey, as per usual. She dragged me to breakfast with our parents, despite the fact that I wasn't even hungry due to the midnight snacks. I didn't listen to the conversation much, mainly because it was just my parents talking about the next stop that the boat is taking, and what we're doing. At one point, I did start semi-listening but only because it sounded like my parents were about to start a petty argument, but that argument never came.
After breakfast, I met up with Colt in our usual spot. The second that he saw me walking up to him, the biggest grin broke out on his face, and I swear that grin is contagious.
We ended up hanging out by the pool today, seeing as it wasn't as crowded as it usually is. Sitting on the pool loungers, laughing about little stupid things that we won't even remember within the next few hours, but never even dipping a toe into the piss water.
Colt had asked me a hypothetical question a moment ago, and we were debating over my answer when we were rudely interrupted by my parents, who seemed to be walking by when they saw us.
"What a rare sighting!" My mom was the first to speak, gaining our attention as we turned our heads to look at her. She's looking right at me, a smile on her face. "Lux without a book in hand." She tsks as she slightly shakes her head. "I never thought I'd see that."
Despite the fact that she has a smile on her face, clearly happy to see me, my dad, on the other hand, did not. He's eyeing Colt, almost as if Colt had stolen his last Poptart and he's holding a grudge. He didn't look this way when he had first met Colt at the beach five days ago, so what changed?
"You two attached at the hip now?" My dad questions us, and he has a sour tone to his voice. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion, but before I could question him, he speaks again. "Every time I see you, you're either just leaving him or you're about to meet with him. Hard to get you away from him for too long." My mom lightly smacks his arm when he says this, almost as if to tell him to stop.
"Stop it. She's having fun with her friend, leave them be." She defends my actions, however my dad doesn't seem to want to leave it be. From the look on his face, it seems like he wants to drag me away from Colt, and maybe lock me in my room for the rest of the cruise. As if Colt and I wouldn't find a way for him to sneak into the room afterwards.
My mom grabs my dad by his arm, and she begins to drag him away. However, before they're fully walking away, she looks over her shoulder at us with a sweet smile and says, "have fun!"
Once they're gone, I look at Colt again, only to see that he's still looking at my parents walking away, his eyebrow slightly raised.
"What was that about?" He asks me, and I shrug when he meets my eyes. I can see nothing but curiosity and confusion behind his green eyes, and I feel the same feelings inside me. "Doesn't seem like your dad really likes me anymore."
