One
He was doing this to protect his family's honour and his own honour by extension.
Two
His hand grasped the gun at his side, his heart beating in his ears.
Three
This was his destiny, he had been born for this and this alone.
Four
To die for a better cause, the Denholm's cause.
Five
To die for his family, well more so his father and mother.
Six
To die for the Heron's legacy, to protect it.
Seven
To make a name for himself, no matter what's it takes.
Eight
To be known to the world.
Nine
No one was allowed to insult his family name on the Isle without consequences. That's what his father had said anyway. He was Scott Denholm and he was not allowed to say no to his father and mother.
Ten
He didn't even have time to think.
BANG!
He had been hit but yet he couldn't make a sound.
"Scott!" Owen screamed, running towards her collapsed friend.
"Tell my parents that I did it, and tell my brother I love star," Scott choked out between shallow breaths.
"Absolutely not, you are not dying on me," Owen wrapped an arm around Scott's side, putting the bleeding man's arm around her neck. He refused to look at the rouge who had just won the duel, instead he dug a hand into his pocket to look for something.
"Gonna try save that pathetic excuse of a Denholm? He's better off dead," the oppositional pirate cackled, turning towards his ship.
A second gunshot went off and went through the rouge's shoulder, yet neither Scott nor Owen had shot.
"Do not fucking touch my brother. Let this be a lesson to your little band of rouges, do not mess with him or me again," Acho spat.
"Acho-" Scott's health was declining quickly, he didn't think he'd make it.
"Don't speak, it's alright. You're going to be alright," Acho wasn't sure whether or not star was trying to convince Scott or themself.
Scott's eyes started to close, the world around him slipped further and further away.
"No! No!" Acho screamed, "Open your fucking eyes!" Star sobbed.
Scott had always been told about a white light at the end of the tunnel when a person died, but his light was golden and warm.
Just as he reached the golden glow, his eyes began to slowly open, three faces blurred before him and three voices became more and more distinct.
"-ott? Scott!" As his hearing returned, he heard a familiar voice calling his name, his dear friend Owen.
"Scott!" The second voice belonged to his younger brother.
"Scott," the third voice was one Scott recognised but it confuses him.
"Sun God?" His throat rasped slightly as he spoke, his eyes focusing on the deity before him, "Forgive me did not kneeling in respect," Scott chucked, a long-running gag he had with the god.
"I suppose, in your current state, I ought to forgive you," Sun God teased, but internally he was glad his magic had worked and was having a personal celebratory moment in his own head.
Acho threw himself against Scott, pulling him up, "You are so lucky Sun God came and Owen had a regeneration potion! What the fuck were you thinking? Never do something this stupid and reckless again!" Acho scolded through tears.
"You know what Mother and Father are like, I couldn't say no," Scott wrapped his arms around his sibling.
"Oh shut it!" Owen turned her head to yell at the rouge, who was groaning in pain.
