Donghyuck took the vacant seat beside Caryl's. He took the chance after figuring out that their classmate is absent.
Looking around, he saw the others filling in the classroom and immediately settled on their respective seats. Caryl is still not here. Donghyuck is sure that the girl is aiming for a perfect attendance this semester.
"You look awkward."
Donghyuck faced the owner of the voice. It was Sungchan, another demon in the class.
"What do you know?", he replied
"You've been craning your neck everywhere. Why are you here anyway? Your seat's in there.", Sungchan jabbed his thumb on the opposite direction
"You sound annoyed. Why? Is it too distracting if I sit in front of you?"
"Can you just go?"
"Suck it up."
Before the other can retort, Caryl ran to her seat, a few seconds before their teacher arrived.
Donghyuck's face lit up at the presence of his seatmate, while Caryl's eyes squinted at the sight of him.
"What are you doing here?", she mouthed
He leans closer to her and whispers, "What do you know about the union?"
"What?", her brows knitted at the random question, "Should I answer that now?"
"Mhm"
She rolled her eyes and glanced at their teacher doing roll calls, "A member of the family of demons and humans who are in the union is expected to marry to maintain the peace of both kinds.", she rapidly answers
"Is it really essential for peace?"
"Why are you even asking me that?"
"Jang Ayeon!"
"Present!", Caryl actively responded and then glared at the demon
Donghyuck only flashed a small grin and urged her to go on.
She scoffed, "Because if there will be a family who'll ruin the tradition, other families would dare do that too. If there are no members of the family to represent in marriage, there will be no connection between humans and demons, until such time that one kind will fight the other. There will be no peace."
"Who even told you that?"
"Mom"
"So are you one of the sacrificial lambs?"
"Are you simply asking questions or do you mean to mock my fucked up life?"
"Lee Donghyuck!"
"Here", Donghyuck responded
He only glanced at the girl then shifted his attention in front.
