The Rejected Mate
Chapter 18
Kendall's P.O.V
Ok, maybe I was just saying I could do this because it seemed like a big piece of chocolate pie. But now that I was staring at the huge doors before me, I felt as if everything that I had told myself about being able to face this, was entirely wrong.
My legs were like Jell-o, my hands were sweating more than an athlete, and my stomach felt as if everything that I had eaten in the past two days was just plain repulsive.
All 31 people that had come to help this pack get back on its feet, were watching me. That meant 62 eyes were trained on my every movement and that made me feel ten times worse.
Besides that Lily was basically prancing, and howling in joy. That traitor had lied about staying by my side through this. She was itching to break open the doors and charge for her mate.
Luckily, I was there to stop her before she would do something we would both regret.
'Kendall, you knock whenever you are ready ok?' Lucas cautiously said in my mind. I nodded my head in agreement and in show of saying thanks.
Wow, how did we end up here?
Who knew that just 2 years ago, I was bolting away from these doors with no intention of ever coming back or ever seeing the people who stood behind those doors, even if that meant being killed trying to leave this prison.
And, here I was with an entirely new pack, who loved and cherished me, waiting at the same doors for us to help the pack I thought I would never see again.
Let me tell you something that through these past two years have taught me. Life is not easy. It isn't water off a duck's back, nor is it taking candy from a baby. You can't go out and hope that things will all go your way.
Because let me be the one to tell you, they won't. They'll just seem to go the opposite way. But that's ok because in life there are many paths. But many maths lead to the same place. What you have to decide is which one you are willing to cross, and face what comes your way. There are absolutely no shortcuts, just long, painful paths.
Life will knock you down. Reality will slam you onto the ground. What is essential in every one, is having someone there to catch you. Or being able to jump back up on your feet and beat the hell out of the obstacle that had taken you down.
Which was what I was planning to do right here, right now. I was planning on beating the hell out of my biggest obstacle, which was behind these doors.
Hesitantly, I balled my fist up and pounded on the birch wood doors, three times.
Retracting my hand, I backed away from the door to avoid getting slammed by it. I may not want to admit it but I was as scared as Sam watching American Horror Story.
I pushed my way through the crowd by the door and hid behind everyone else. We were 31 people here and we were all bunched up at the porch of my ex-pack's door.
I knew I would have to face this, but I didn't think it would be happening this soon.
Two minutes passed before the sound of feet approaching the door was heard. I sniffed the air, to double check if it was him but according to my scent, it wasn't him. Or was it?
There was a click of the locks before the door was unbolted. Holding my breath, and hoping-no actually praying that he didn't open the doorway, the birch wood door opened and a teenage girl with bright red hair stood on the other end.
"They're here. Trevor, get the Alpha." She called. Her bright green eyes examined every face that stood at the door. She must have been new to the pack because I certainly didn't recognize her and I knew everyone.
Not because I was popular, I was no where near that, but because I was required to clean every single teenager's and child's bedroom. I had recognized every young face then and there.
"The Wolfsbane pack is here."
