Izzy
The drive home from the beach was long and tense. Spoiler Tyler and I didn't talk at all

I was so glad to see my house.

"Mami, I'm home!" I yell as I walk through the door.

"I'm in the kitchen," My mom responds.

I throw my bags down and head to the kitchen.
My mom is at the stove stirring a pot.

"Hey, Izzy. How was the trip?" My mom asks.

I sit down at the table. "It was good."

She glances at me over her shoulder. "Not as fun as you thought it would be?"

I sigh. "No, it was. It's just Tyler and I fought the entire time."

Mom takes the pot off the stove eye and puts a lid over the top of it. "Awe sweetie, I'm sorry."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

I've always been close with my mom. I've always told her everything that was happening in my life.

"I feel like the past few weeks we've been super distant from each other. Then the times we are together we fight."

I take a deep breath. "Recently it's almost like we're on separate planets."

Mom sits down beside me. "You and Tyler have been together for a long time, longer than most people your age."

She places her hand over mine. "Talk to him, most likely you're just going through a phase."

I look down. "That's the thing I tried talking to him and he says there's nothing wrong."

My mom sighs slightly. "Just give it time."

I give her a tired smile. "Where's Papi?"

She stands back up. "He went to pick up Tina from a friend's house."

"I'll be in my room. Let me know when dinner is ready."

"Alright," My mom sings.

"Knock, knock," My stepdad says from outside my door.

"Come in."

He takes a seat on my desk chair. "So, how was your trip?"

I smile. "It went well." I'm close with my stepdad, but he adores Tyler and I don't want him to see Tyler any differently than he does now.

"That's good."

He gets a weird smile. "You didn't add to the human population did you?"

I feel my face heat and I throw a pillow at my stepdad. "No!"

He catches the pillow. "I'm just checking."

I groan with my face buried in my hands. "Seriously, why do you have to be so awkward?"

He chuckles.

You're probably wondering how this man became my stepdad.

My mother met my biological father in college.
My mother is Cuban and my father is American so he fell for her pretty quickly.

They dated for a while then my mom got pregnant with my older brother, (the one that's in the military). So being young and dumb they decided to get married. They both graduated college and my father got a decent job.

Two years later my mom got pregnant with me. Also around that time, my dad got a pay raise.
They had a happy life but they were never in love.

When I was around six my dad got another raise, but he was going to have to move. My mom didn't want to and decided it was time for them to get a divorce.
