" So what was all that about? I didn't expect the star of the night to come up to you?" Mary asked curiously.
" Nothing she just came up to me. We started talking and she wanted to be friends. She got my number so she could contact me again and maybe hang out as you've heard."
" Oh I see but I don't think it's that simple. That kind of people, the famous ones, they never go around initiating talks with random strangers. She must've seen something in you. Anyway, so what? You agreed to be her friend?"
" Yeah."
" Well, tonight has just been surprising. My friend who's not made a single new friend since I've known her has just made a new friend. A hotshot singer that everyone's dying to talk to has initiated a friendship with my obviously reserved friend who was sitting all the way in the corner. This definitely seems fishy to me." Mary said with mischievous eyes trying to tease her.
" Okay, whatever. I don't know. I literally met her tonight so I don't know where this is gonna take us."
" Alright, I was just messing around with you. I am glad that you've finally made a new friend. Usually, whenever someone comes up to you, you look at them as if you're interrogating a criminal and they go away without even talking to you. So I must commend her bravery. By the way, I got a date for myself tonight. After we leave, I'll hang out with him. So you can also hang out with your newfound friend. And don't worry about me." Ashley said with a suggestive smile.
" Yeah, but I am not gonna do that. It's your birthday."
" Yeah, it's just my birthday, no big deal. I am not saying that you can go like right now cause I won't let you until I get my present and have the cake but when we are done, and if she's still there, you can go. I hit it off with a guy so we'll go somewhere else and then after midnight I'll go home."
" But it's not safe. You just met him tonight. We are lawyers we know what..."
" Okay stop. Scarlett, don't let our occupation dictate us okay? We can still live a normal life without thinking badly every second. And we've been through a lot so I am not stupid to get in a situation that bad. Moreover, it's not like my first time hanging out with a stranger I met. And don't think the same about your new friend either otherwise you'll grow old and die all alone. Now come up on the stage and have fun with me!"
A few hours later...
" Mary, your drunk out of your mind!"
Mary stumbled along with Scarlett's support and ended up almost falling down. Zoe looked at her worried and saved her in time.
" Yeahhh Yeahhh I know. That's why I canceled my daaate with that haandsome stranger."
" Great. I'll drop you home then."
Mary stopped stumbling and put her hands on Scarlett's shoulder. She came a bit too close to her. Scarlett was stunned for a moment before she heard Mary speak with her drunken breath.
" Nope! You call our designated driver. I'll go home aaaand you go on your date with that hot singer."
" No Mary. Your too drunk to be fine on your own."
" Scarlett, it's been years since that incident and believe me when I say I'll be safe, okay?" Mary said seriously despite being drunk. Scarlett's eyes darkened a little upon hearing that. But she still protested.
" But... "
" Please, don't ruin the only chance you might have at getting a happy life okay? You deserve it and I've never seen you interested in anyone except her. I could see it at a glance but I pretended not to for your so-called 'not suitable for relationship' mindset. So listen to me okay?"
" Yeah, but, but what if it's not what I think it is? I... I've never been in a relationship. I've never even been attracted to someone. So how would I know that this is that type of feeling?"
" Scarlett, I am honestly too drunk to help you realize your sexuality. And if it helps you, let me tell you that it doesn't matter okay? Just go out with her. Tell her that you are just getting to know yourself and she'll understand you."
" But what if I like her and she's straight?"
" You can't be serious right now! First of all, she's damn gay. Everything about her says that and second of all, she is too into you to deny that. I mean have you ever seen someone try to talk to someone like you who seems so uninterested even when they are not? She did and I don't think anyone would be that desperate just cause they wanted to be friends okay."
" Do you say that because she's a bit tom girl type? As in cool and all? Cause there are many straight people who... "
" God no Scarlett that's not why I said that. I am too drunk to explain everything and I can't help you much in this state so I am just gonna tell you to go back to her now before she leaves. And without saying anything else, just call the driver quickly and send me away!"
