The next day came soon. Early in the morning, just when the dawn was leaving and the sun was rising in its all glory, Ashley woke up.
She sat up on the bed. Her hair was a little messy as she waited to fully wake up. She closed the alarm off and slowly got up from the bed. She walked into the bathroom and washed up. After that, she tied her hair in a ponytail and straightened her bed sheets, and cleaned her room.
She put things in their place and opened her robot vacuum cleaner before going to make herself breakfast. She decided to make banana pancakes.
She was done in half an hour and put them in the microwave. Then she went back to her room and prepared to shower. Taking a bath requires time and she had to go to the office so she just took a shower. After she was done, she dried her hair with a hairdryer and changed her clothes. Two hours had already passed then.
She warmed up her pancakes in the microwave and put a little butter over it. The butter slowly melted. She took a fork and a knife and ate her breakfast while watching an episode of One Piece. It was an amazing anime and the story kept her entertained plus it was fun too.
It took her fifteen minutes to finish three pancakes and milk. And she also finished the episode. It was the ark of 'Enies Lobby' where Robin was abducted by CP9.
Ashley sorted the utensils and washed her hands. Then she went back and fixed her hair in a ponytail. She took a long trench coat and put it over and then grabbed her purse and her car keys.
Her office was around half an hour's drive from her home. She reached her office and parked her car. It was a simple Volkswagen nothing expensive. She was doing well but she wasn't rich or anything.
She parked her car and walked in. She was right on time at 8 a.m. The rest of the day passed with her getting to know the colleagues and also learning new things. Of course, her colleagues made her run some small errands like xeroxing copies and all but nothing too much.
She got off at 18:00 and grabbed herself a Subway for dinner. Since it was her first day, she felt a little tired. She just wanted to go home and clean up. Then have dinner while watching something.
She went home and did all that. When she sat down to eat, she almost got an urge to call Scarlett. She hasn't left her mind but she knew they just net last night so it might be too early for that. She decided to wait a few days.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Scarlett just sent off a client. She didn't have any court appearances today so it was a pretty easy day. After sending off the client, she packed up and went home. She planned to look at some documents after dinner.
When she reached home, she made herself a simple rice and curry. After eating she went to her study room. It was just around 8 pm. But before she could enter the room, her phone rang. She plugged it out of the charger and looked at her phone.
Then her whole demeanor changed. She looked conflicted. She didn't pick up until it has ringed four times.
" Hello?"
" Hello, Scarlett. It's me."
" Yes, mother."
" Well, I called to ask if you would like to come to your cousin's wedding. It's on the coming Friday."
" No. I've work to do. I'll just send a gift."
" I see. Then... Are you coming home this weekend? It's been a while." The voice on the other end sounded hesitant and careful.
Scarlett didn't say anything. She looked down on the floor. A few seconds later, she finally replied.
" Yes. I'll be there around 13:00 for lunch and stay till dinner."
" Great! Then what do you want to eat? Tell me so I can prepare beforehand." She sounded quite excited.
" Anything is fine, mother."
" No. I'll make some good dishes. You don't come every other day to just make anything. Don't worry and just come. It'll also be a good change from your busy life."
" Okay."
" Alright then. I won't keep you busy. Have a good night."
" Good night."
Scarlett pulled the phone down. She didn't move for a moment as she was lost in thoughts. Then she put the phone back on charging and went to her desk. Taking out the documents she brought home, she began reading them.
She lost track of time and went to sleep after midnight.
