Chris told me his father had been taken away by the police, so it was safe to come see Neo and talk to her about the situation. Maybe get her to be on my side.
Chris opened the door for me giving me a kiss on the forehead.
"She's in her room I guess."
He was really being helpful.
"Thanks..wish me luck."
He helped me up the stairs since it wasn't as easy as it used to be , being that I was carrying an 8 month old baby in my belly.
I knocked on her door twice, to no reply.
"Neo...can we talk. Please." I said opening the door after noticing that it was unlocked.
"JESUS!!!!" I yelled.
Chris, his mom and the maid came running.
I stood there unable to move from the shock.
She was lying there with foam in her mouth."Check her pulse!" Her mother yelled as chris ran to the ground where she was.
There was no pulse....nothing.
Chris looked at his mother then looked at me."NO!...NO, CALL AMBULANCE!" The mother yelled.
This was like deja Vu.I couldn't move , getting flashbacks from the night I stabbed Matthew.
In less than 3 minutes the ambulance arrived and carried her away.
I tried entering the ambulance car where they had placed her but they refused, pushing me back.
"GET IN!" Chris called starting his car.
We drove right behind the ambulance till we reached the hospital.
They placed her on oxygen and all other sorts of things. They pushed the hospital bed into a room yelling
"Overdose 393, we need doctors!"
"Doctor is she going to be okay!" I asked stopping one of the doctors running towards the room.
"Ma'am please sit and wait!" He said pushing me aside and running into the room.
I started feeling pains in my belly so Chris sat me down on a chair.
"Please sit. Stress is not good for the baby... she'll be okay I promise." He said trying to calm me down.
I'm sure he wasn't even sure she'd be okay , but he kept calm.
We sat there for almost 2 hours until the doctor came out with nurses behind.
"WHERE'S MY DAUGHTER! WHERE IS NEO!!" Mrs Khumalo cried.
"Are you the family of Neo Khumalo?" He asked.
"Yes.." Chris replied.
"I'm afraid...she didn't survive it. She overdosed on pain killers, more than the last time actually...I'm sorry we tried all we could."
"NO! SHE CAN'T BE!" Mrs Khumalo looked like she was loosing her mind.
She kept crying to see her daughter.
Christian pulled her away from the doctor hugging her tightly to comfort her.
"Ma please....be strong." He said as she cried on his chest.
I was shocked that not a single tear dropped from my eyes.
I was in so much pain that I couldn't even cry anymore. My best friend had killed herself.
We spent all day at the hospital. I had forgotten to pick Fatima up from school I immediately called her.
"Sis I'm sorry I got...caught up in something I'm at the hospital."
"Is the baby okay! What happened."
"Its not me I'm fine. I'll explain later."
Chris dropped his mother off at home then dropped me at the hotel we were lodged in.
"Ade , just come stay with us for a bit please....you can't be pregnant and staying in a hotel."
"Chris I'll be fine I promise."
"Fine. Goodnight I'll see you first thing tomorrow for our first Court meeting."
He gave me a kiss on the forehead and left.I didn't understand the kisses...we haven't spoken on where we stand and if we're still together.
"Sis welcome."
"Thank you.."
"What happened today?"
I didn't know how to tell her.
"Neo....Neo is gone."
"Gone to where?"
"Heaven."
She froze, processing what I had said.
After a while she gave me a tight hug.
"I'm sorry..." She said.
I sighed.
"It's okay...We need to go to bed now. I have my first Court meeting tomorrow.""And I still can't come?"
"No you have school abeg."
