Bang
I hear a sound all to familiar, though just at the range
But right Now I'm at a school desk and Little did I know everything is about to change.
My classmates and I waste no time getting things to barricade the door. A bookshelf a desk a chair. Anything to keep the shooter out there.
We break the window im the last one out.
We all run for our lives.the amount of tears cried could fill a drought.
Suddenly I feel a pain brought from a loud bang
I fall to the ground, tears in my eyes but so one stops not even a gasp of surprise.
It hit my leg, hurts like a bitch but inside get this hitch
The need to survive and thrive I don't wanna just lay here and die
So I pick myself back up
And continue running
It stings all the way
But I get to safety,
I get to live another day
Once the chaos subsides
The teacher counts the size of the class
4 passed
Just our class alone
The others I'm dreading to know.
Know how many students we lost that day
The school must have looked like the Gettysburg battlefield on that cold November day.
The police soon arrived and treated our wounds.
Then to find out the unbearable news
14 died in the crossfire.
More people cried. And that was the moment I found out my best friend passed. Everything went silent. A ringing in my ears. A reality check I haven't had in years.
The shooter was identified and brought to jail. Parents gathered around to pick up their kids
40 some people still stood there as I depart . I knew 14 would leave with a shattered heart.
