January, 2023:
I have has never been too fond of surprises. In all my time knowing Spencer though, he's never minded them. So as I sat, waiting for his arrival home from work, I tried thinking of how I would say this.
I clutched the envelope in my hand, wrinkling the sides of the paper as I heard the our front door creak open. I would typically leap up from wherever I was in the house and greet him, but today I stayed where I was, seated in the kitchen.
"Hey," he smiled, approaching me as he took off his scarf.
"Hey," I replied, then looking down at the paper in my hand.
"What's that?" He asked, brows furrowed. He leaned against the kitchen island next to me, sincerity in his gaze.
"Here." I passed him the envelope and he peeled it open slowly. Finally he opened it and began reading:
Dear Spencer,
I know telling you this in a letter is cheesy, but I digress. I love you. In the past 3 years, we have been through a lot. First quarantine, then our wedding, then the passing of your mother, and finally our resignation from the BAU. I know how busy you've been with teaching, so figured it's now or never to tell you the good news.
Flip the page.
Love, y/n
I watched as he glanced at me confused throughout his reading. When he finished the page he turned to me as if to speak but I stopped him, "turn the page." I grinned. As he glanced down at the picture, the biggest smile I'd ever seen broke out onto his face.
"You're pregnant?""Yeah only about 3 to 4 weeks but...yeah."
"We're having a baby?"
"Yes, Spence!" I smiled, moving to his side. He then turned to me and wrapped his arms around me.
"We're having a baby." I could feel his lips messily press against my hairline, he whispered, "I love you"
"I love you," my arms tightened around his waist. "You're gonna make a great dad."
"And you're gonna make a great mom."
September, 2023:
When they put him in my arms, wrapped in a light blue blanket, I couldn't believe it. He was the most adorable baby in the world
"You did so good. Just breathe," Spencer said, voice full of emotion and tears freely rolling down his cheeks. I just couldn't stop looking at our son.
"Baby Bennett Gideon Reid," I whispered, the baby's hand wrapping around my finger. Spencer chuckled.
"Should I go get the team?" He asked me.
"They will kill you if you don't," I quipped.
When Spencer returned, the room got much more crowded as practically the entire BAU shuffled into the hospital room.
"Oh my gosh!" Garcia whisper squealed. "My fourth godson!"
"Who said you were the godmother?" Emily said, turning her head to look at Garcia.
"Ooo Cat fight..." Derek teased the two.
"Oh please, I'm more than happy to fight you for the right of being the godfather," Rossi joked.
"Em, It's okay," JJ spoke "Your the cool aunt."
"Fine," Emily huffed.
"Guys be quiet, don't wake him," Matt hushed the group a little bit.
"I think the little guy is fine," Luke said, gesturing towards the baby that sat silently in my arms.
"He's not talking about the baby, Luke," Emily laughed, pointing to Spencer who'd fallen fast asleep in one of the plush chair in the room, making everyone laugh.
"Now who wants to hold baby Reid first?" I asked, the room erupting in "me!" And "no me first!"
I was happy. We all were really. A lot had changed in the past few years, and they would continue to change. But we could get through it no matter what as long as we have each other. We kept each other afloat, and we kept each other in our hearts for fourteen years and now, for the rest of our lives.
