The board meeting sucked.
As usual, as soon as First arrived he had to endure the stares and whispers of everyone present, then came the fake hospitality of the ambassadors, and after almost two hours of trivialities and insignificant details finally one of the youngest and clearly most anxious councillors, Miss Vosbien, representing the wolves, finally had the courage to say what everyone there was clearly avoiding.

Someone, a sorcerer they suspected, was tampering with the Gray portals, releasing various demonic auras, so far the council had been able to deal with most of them, unfortunately there had been a few possessions, which occurred when an aura took over the body of a human or a creature which consequently led to several executions since it was impossible to remove the aura.

Not that any of that had anything to do with him demonic auras preferred warm and living bodies which for the most part did not include vampires but as was cordially recalled by Nawat, the representative of the vampires and one of First's oldest acquaintances. Demonic auras fed on chaos and destruction, their magic emanated uncontrollable waves of energy capable of annihilating any species, which meant a danger to all, and whoever was opening such passages had no good intentions.

Which led everyone into a debate of what to do next as there was still no clue as to who was responsible and it was not possible to know where the next Portal would open as it was impossible to traced.

— Basically you called this meeting for nothing. - exclaimed First ironically.

— Lord Kanaphan, I need to remind you that it is the duty of the council to protect everyone, we need to make our decisions together and in consensus so that everyone is safe - said Madelin, representative of the Faes in a soft voice, something that First detested, the woman was a thousand years older than everyone there but insisted on keeping her shape as a little fifteen year old girl, and she always spoke in that condescending tone that gave even the vampire a chill.

— I remember - First smiled coldly at the young lady - but I have to remind you that nobody here knows what to do next and that us all sitting at this stupid round table facing each other isn't going to solve anything.?

— First - called Nawat - Do you know what happened the last time the portals were opened? How many of us died in the chaos?  What could happened if someone tried to use the power of auras for their own benefit?

First glared at him with anger in his eyes.

No he didn't need to be reminder, he remembered it very well about 20 years ago after an earthquake affected the Lay lines the energy of the portals became unstable and over a thousand demonic auras crossed causing death everywhere, one of them was First brother, Tawan, they grew up together and despite not sharing the same blood they became brothers when they were transformed together.

First lost count of how many he killed that day, if there was one thing he hated, it was demonic auras, purposeless beings, hungry for destruction without ever caring about anything.

— You don't need to remind me Nawat - First hated being there - What you need to remember is who put you in that chair and show a little respect.

Nawat gulped, and lowered his head, irritated by the reminder and the humiliation.

- Twenty years ago you were responsible for locating the sorcerer who tried to control the power of the auras after that disaster, the council is extremely grateful to you for that - Madelin said - That's why you were summoned, to help us prevent this from happening again.

Hr remembered that right after the executions 20 years ago a few areas were still loose he made it his personal mission to hunt down each one of them, it was when one of his people gave him a tip about a sorcerer who was said to keep demonic auras trapped for experiments. He soon took the initiative to investigated the man when he finally found him there were no more signs of Demonic aura he had somehow absorbed the power of the aura and killed the person who had been his vessel.

The Sorcerer managed to escape from First, incapacitating him with a level of magic he had never seen before Most likely coming from the Power absorbed from the auras, power that the sorcerer clearly could not control so Fisrt decided to report to the council, who began hunting him, making it their problem and not First, who received a notice of his death when the council finally found him.

What surprised First was that the sorcerer will not die from battle wounds but from prolonged use of his new powers. First remembered the uncontrollable amount of power he had seen in that man. And even years after his death, the council still sought his disciples, sorcerers who kept books with their teachings and techniques that were strictly forbidden, anyone caught practicing such magic or in possession of a grimoire that belonged to Mr Rattanakitpaisarn were sentenced to death.

Even though it was a drastic measure, it was the only way the council found to prevent others from trying something similar.

— What you mean — said First reinterpreting the young woman's words — is that you summoned me here because you expect me to have some information to help you.

Everyone present remain silent but none of them disagreed, which made First laugh.

— You want me to solve your problems - he said smiling sarcastically - again .

— We want your help - said  Vosbien

— Well - said First seriously - you will have, I'll ask my people if anyone knows anything, and I'll also ask my best investigators to check deeper.  But that will be all I will do.

Everybody stare a him, First always helped the board, but he was too tired, he'd lost too much and he wasn't cut out for that politics shit.

— I had a reason for turning down a chair as a representative. Don't push it.

Nawat faced First who was slowly getting up ready to leave.

— Now if you'll excuse me, I have more interesting things waiting for me at home.
