Beads of sweat collected on his forehead as he watched her take her last breath, he squeezed her hand as she wheezed. Slowly, the heart monitor's beeps slowed down as her breathing became quicker and shorter. Her skin had droplets of sweat on her face as she shone as the light reflected on her.

Bobby, Athena, T.K, Carlos, Maddie, Evan and Eddie stood collectively around her bed waiting, wanting to make sure that she died peacefully and surrounded by those who loved her. Eddie rested his hand above hers, her grip slightly tightening, pain evident on her face, T.K ran his hand through her hair as Carlos hugged him from behind, resting a hand on her shoulder as her dad and step-mom squeezed her other hand, Bobby pressed a kiss to her cheek as the beeping dropped rapidly before a steady beep erupted into the room.

Everyone knew what was happening, but nobody wanted to except it, that it was coming to an end. There had been a discussion and an argument over wether the kids should have been brought to say goodbye to their mom, but Bobby and Eddie wanted to protect them, whereas Maddie, Athena, T.K and Carlos thought they needed to see her one last time.

As nurses and doctors rushed in and out of the room, they pushed them out and closed the doors and curtains, blocking them out. When the door opened the next moment, they saw the sheet being pulled up, the monitors being disconnected and the nurses checking the time. A cry tore from Eddie's lips as he caved in on himself, landing on his knees as sob after sob wracked his body.

Bobby's hand rested over his mouth as Athena hugged into his side, Evan shook his head as he and Maddie tried to help Eddie up, whereas T.K cried into his husband's shoulder. Nobody was ready to lose the vibrant energy of Veronica Elizabeth Katelynn Nash, she lit up their lives.

Maddie texted Chimney and Hen the news, as everyone sat in silence, not able to process what had happened. Her eyes watered as tears threatened to spill, but she had to stay strong for everyone. At that moment Marjan called Ronnie's phone a smile on her face, but that soon turned into a frown as she realized what had happened.

The firefighter looked up to Carlos who simply nodded his head, pulling his husband closer to his chest. Tears rolled down the firefox's cheeks as she attempted to process the loss of her best friend, everyone at the station could tell what had happened by her reaction, and each and every member of the 126, austin, texas was deeply sad and left at a loss by her death.

what happens when someone you love dies? does it ever stop hurting?

That was a question that Eddie needed to know, it felt like someone was compressing his lungs as sobs tore through his throat, one after the other. Arms wrapped around him as he cried. Tears blocked his vision as everything blurred, his heart hammered in his ears as everything intensified and felt heavier than it was.
