Chapter 10 - The Dream

"Can you please slow down?" Ryden frowned at the tight hold his arms were in while the two servants dragged him to a bedroom in the large castle.

He huffed as they ignored his request and continued pulling him down the dark halls. He looked at the large windows adorning nearly every inch of the walls.

The sun finally set leaving the castle in the dark. The boy now notices the lack of lights in the halls. The only light coming from the rising moon.

"Why are there no lights or candles?" He questioned. "And why are all of you acting like this? What's going on here?!" Ryden looked between the two but neither made a move to answer him.

He expected as much but still hoped they'd be able to break whatever spell they were in. He gave a defeated sigh as the servants stopped in front of a door. They pushed the thick ice door open and gently pushed Ryden into the room and with a simple goodnight, they closed the door in his face.

Ryden scowled, his eyes wandering around the bedroom. The room was just like the halls, dark and only lit by the moon's light. Filled with treasures and decorations that were given to his family. The same ice that held magical energy to it.

It felt just like the beach, it felt alive. He let his hand touch the chilled wall, it gave an uncharacteristically warm comfort. Ryden backed away from the wall before flopping on the bed and turning his exhausted gaze to the wide window.

He could see the moon sitting brightly in the midnight sky. No clouds tempering its mystical glow. He remembered how much you loved the moon. You'd stay up late bathing in its light humming softly while the shimmery light encircled you. He remembered how excited you were every time a full moon would appear.

You would take him and Nora to the beach every full moon. It made him recall when you first took them to the beach during a full moon.

At night the beach feels completely different from the daytime. It is still the same place, yet the atmosphere is changed. During the daytime, the beach is filled with crowds of families, couples, groups playing, old timers strolling, and seagulls ransacking unattended food.

During these times the beach is lively and warm. But during the night, the darkness of the beach had a sense of peace with the absence of the crowds you can notice other things at the beach and yourself...

It was another late night and you couldn't sleep once again, not with everything you've been through. Ever since everything that happened with Adira and the Dragon War, you developed so many fears.

Fears you never thought you'd have. Fear of enclosed spaces after being trapped in a shell of ice while being stuck in your mind.

A new fear of being forgotten, you were the last dragon around now. No one else you knew was alive you hoped to leave a stain on the new people you'd meet.

You were also scared to sleep. After doing so for so long you were afraid you may never wake up. Those three were only a few of many more fears you held.

You were too proud to acknowledge them before, but ever since those two children appeared in your life. You found yourself more empathic and humble. You could imagine the other dragons teasing your change of spirit. The thought brought a smile to your face.
