Chapter 29 - The Reveal

You and Mystogan were just returning from another successful mission, your eighth together.

The bond between you had strengthened remarkably, evident in the way you moved in sync during conflict and understood each other without needing words.

This particular quest had involved tracking down a rogue wizard who had been wreaking havoc on a nearby village with his volatile, uncontrollable magic.

The rogue wizard, a former member of a guild, had taken refuge in the heart of a crumbling castle perched atop a jagged cliff overlooking the village. The air around the castle crackled with unstable magical energy, making it difficult to maintain control.

In the final confrontation, you and Mystogan fought side by side, your magic complementing his seamlessly. In the end, you emerged victorious, the rogue wizard subdued, and the village saved.

Now, as you made your way back home, the night sky was clear, and the moon cast a serene glow over the landscape.

The moonlight pulled at your magic, fueling you. You loved walking at night, but the feeling was amplified with Mystogan by your side.

Mystogan walked beside you, one of his staffs tapping softly against the ground with each step. He glanced at you, a shy smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

"So, what do you say about tackling another mission together?" he asked, his voice hopeful and light.

You raised an eyebrow, teasingly. "Another one? Do you think Makarov would allow that? You've been monopolizing my time."

Mystogan chuckled softly. "For his favorite S-Class mage? I'm sure he'll make an exception for you."

You grinned, revealing your pointy teeth. "Favorite? I doubt it. I'm sure there are plenty of other S-Class mages in Fairy Tail, and I'm still relatively new."

Mystogan shook his head, a gentle laugh escaping him. "Not that many. Erza is the most reliable, yes, but she's often wrapped up in her own missions with Natsu now. Laxus, well, he's gone but his strength remains the same. Mirajane isn't S-Class anymore, she's just as powerful but prefers to deal with guild matters. And then there's Gildarts."

The name caught you off guard. "Gildarts?" you echoed, confused. "I haven't heard of such a human in the guild."

Mystogan's eyes crinkled with amusement behind his mask. "Gildarts is a legend. He's probably the strongest mage in Fairy Tail. He's often away on long-term missions, which is why you haven't met him yet. But trust me, you'll know when you do. He's not just strong, he's unpredictable. Keep your wits about you." he concluded with an inspired expression.

You notice the look and giggle, "You know quite a bit about everyone despite hiding your face all the time," you teased, nudging him playfully.

Mystogan's eyes softened, a smile evident in his gaze. "Fairy Tail is my family, even if I'm not facing them or talking to them. I hope the best for them and will do anything to protect them. That includes you and the twins." His words warmed your heart more than you cared to admit.

"More than you'd ever know," he added, before you could react, he pulled down his mask and leaned in, planting a gentle kiss on your cold cheek. Your heart skipped a beat, and you felt a rush of warmth flood your chest.

His smile was warm and genuine, wrapping around you like a blanket on this cold night. "Goodnight," he said softly, his voice carrying a tenderness that melted your heart.
