Chapter 13 - The True Queen
Gray summoned the lights again lighting up the dark dungeons they now stood in.
Inside each cell, hundreds of people cowered, more than the small number of servants they first saw when they were let in. The villagers Nora and Ryden talked so much about, they were all locked in cold ice cells. Their eyes were no longer the stark swirling red from before. Their eyes peered at the two mages in dread.
"They captured the entire village?!" Gray shouted in shock. Gray walked farther into the room seeing their fearful gazes. Obviously, none of them wanted to be here.
"Seems they forced them into servitude as well." Erza spoke through gritted teeth, the entire scene gave her terrible memories. She looked through the bars to the nearest cell. The villagers are healthy but scared, some covered in bandages. Her brows furrowed at the sight.
Just what were they doing with them?
"Hey Erza, we need to get them out of here." He broke her from her thoughts. She nodded leaving her hand out as she summoned her Flame Empress sword.
"Alright. All of you stand back!" She warned everyone. She released a yell as she put all her strength into her arms and slashed the bars. Yet it didn't work, her sword barely made it through the dense bars.
Erza frowned and yanked at the sword, it didn't move, the ice began to mend itself with Erza's sword still inside.
Erza huffs before turning to Gray who was having similar problems and wasn't able to break the bars to another cell. He sighed before walking over to the woman.
"It seems they were ready for that. We need to find some sort of key." He spoke, glancing at her sword that was lodged into the ice.
Erza nodded seeing that their magic wasn't working. Her brown eyes skimmed over to the villagers that watched the two of them talk. She reached through the bars scaring the people as she grabbed the nearest man and yanked him against the bars.
"Where is the key to the cells?" She asked calmly, contrasting her current actions. Gray sweatdropped before a small voice spoke behind him.
"The king has the key!" A woman spoke. Erza dropped the man and walked toward the voice, Gray following after. Seeing the two's attention on her the woman continued.
"The king puts us here at night so that we won't escape when we aren't being controlled. They usually only do that when Lady Frosta begins to wake so the jester can focus on her." The woman finished her tangerine eyes staring at them with hope.
Gray looked at the woman oddly. "Lady Frosta?" The woman nodded her gaze turning sad. A child spoke up behind her.
"Lady Frosta is our guardian and those mean guys make her do whatever they want!" The boy stated his words stirring conversation.
"Oh, poor Lady Frosta."
"I can only imagine how sad Ryden and Nora are."
"I still can't understand how they somehow gained control of her!"
"I thought she was strong."
"She is strong! She nearly escapes each day."
"Yeah, but those mages use dirty tricks and threaten our lives to make her comply!"
"You guys have to help Lady Frosta!"
Erza and Gray looked back and forth. The dungeons grow lively with the conversation of the dragon that they came here to apprehend. Erza frowned still somewhat skeptical.
