Chapter 11: Madness
Robin's POV
I roam my eyes around as I keep my guard up while running in this creepy forest. I decided to follow Arabel even though I know how dangerous it is because I somehow feel that it is also my fault why she decided to go after them.
Is it, really?
No one joined me because it would be far more dangerous to go in a group and in this way, I can easily run to escape with nothing to worry about. I looked at my feet and noticed that the light in my boots is getting dimmer.
The crystallized boots that my father gave me, which I am wearing now, is nearing its limits and I have to continue running on my own when it exhausts its energy. They can boost one's stamina and are especially compatible to those who use Earth Attribute crystals as it draws energy from the ground.
Keeping guard, I tried scattering my energy in a limited range. However, nothing seems to be detected even if I increase my detection range. Though it is not as good as Nathan, I should be able to detect some presence here. Especially that I'm too far inside the forest.
Why is there nothing?
Instead of becoming relaxed and feeling safe, I can't help but to feel scared because of the silence of the forest. Too quiet and calm to be true.
I activated my crystallized glove and did not let my guard down.
I almost stumble when the trees suddenly sway and what seems like a gust of wind almost took me if it was not with the help of the crystal's power that I was able to keep myself in the ground. It continued for a few seconds and then it became completely silent.
What the? Is there a storm nearby?
I ducked and instinctively activated a barrier when a large explosion sounded nearby. It was so loud that it felt like it was just right behind me. I immediately ran towards the direction when it subsided and was dumbfounded when I arrived.
A large creature that almost looks like it was on the verge of rotting and dying is standing with a large wound like hole on its body. What looks like a tentacle full of burnt and black marks keeps on wriggling like they were reaching for something.
Just looking at it gives me a bad feeling. I toughen myself up and observe the surroundings while I slowly walk around.
Different debris is everywhere and the ground looks like a wreck like a massive fight broke out here. Goosebumps run through my body when I try to scatter my energy around. It feels like something sinister happened here.
It feels like I was being watched.
I noticed something moving just behind the fallen trunks of trees and it looked like a person. I keep my guard up and quickly go towards it.
"Shit. What happened here?" I said to myself when I saw a man lying face down on the ground. Large cuts are all over his body and a broken bow is beside him. His body seems like he was beaten up over and over again.
Wait.
"Hey! Alfred! Is that you? Are you okay?" I quickly helped him up but was too afraid to move him immediately because of his wound. There's also too much blood on his body. I put my ear on his face to determine if he's still breathing.
"Shit. Shit. What the fuck?! Why are you like that? Where's the others?" My hand and body quickly became covered with blood as I panicked. I don't have any ability to heal as I am only an invoker and an Earth Attribute one on that.
