Chapter 7

Sylas puts his hand on my leg to keep it from bouncing up and down. I didn't think I would feel so nervous. On one hand, we're on our way to save our family. On the other hand, i've never done anything like this. I mean, I didn't even have a passport. Heck, I never even left the state before I moved in with my brothers. I didn't think this was the best situation for me to have my first vacation experience.

I look at Sy who just gives his best look of reassurance. It actually did help a little bit too. I put on my brave face because no matter what happened I wasn't willing to let my fears get in the way of getting my family. I look around at the rest of the people on the jet. I was mostly looking at Maddox. To an outsider he would look fine, but I could see how tired he was. I wasn't stupid. I'd seen the toll not having Easton by his side had taken. I mean, of course he missed everyone equally but I knew Easton was different. It must have been strange for him to be making every choice and doing everything by himself. If the stress lines on his face were anything to go by, he was ready to have East and everyone else back.

I was ready to have them back too.

I turn my attention to the Mia and Mason. They'd both gone quiet, which was strange for them. They hadn't said anything to me since we first got on the plane. I guess they were feeling the weight of the situation.

Emil and Adrian seemed to be working on something together. Maybe going over what they were meant to do when we landed.

Everyone had different jobs to do. Maddox, Adrian, Mason, and a few of their trusted men were leading different teams to make searching the building easier. Emil seemed a bit upset at the idea of not being with Adrian, but he didn't say anything about it.

Some men were set to join me, Sylas, and Mia in the car we have for surveillance. We were the eyes and ears. Apparently this is the job Sylas always takes on their missions. I tried not to think about their missions too much if i'm being honest. I didn't really want to think about how they hurt people. Or how people hurt them in return.

I wasn't any better though.

I could feel a frown tug at my lips as I remembered my thoughts about killing my dad. Why had I even thought that? Did he deserve it?

Yes.

No, of course not.

I'm not sure.

I feel a tap on my leg and look at Sy.

He was sending my a questioning glance but I got the message loud and clear.

Are you okay?

I shrugged. There was no point in lying, but I didn't think this was a conversation everyone needed to hear. It was a me problem not a them problem.

"I'm fine," I say.

He looks at me like he doesn't believe me. I don't blame him. It was a lie.

I gesture to the people around us and he gets what i'm trying to say.

Besides, I don't want to distract him when we should be focusing on this.

"Twenty minutes until we land sir," one of the attendants says to Maddox.

He nods and makes sure everyone heard. I checked to make sure my duffel bag was still under my seat. I wanted to be sure that I wouldn't forget anything. Maddox said that when we land everything will be a little crazy.

Everyone starts moving around. Mia comes to sit by me and Sylas. I watch as the other guys all break out of whatever they were doing to gear up. I watch then put in ear pieces and grab guns from places I didn't even think guns could fit.

A man approaches the three of us and I subconsciously shift closer to Sylas. I relax when Maddox comes to stand next to him.

"This is Paul. He'll be in the car with you guys," he says to us.

The three of us send polite smiles to him and he nods at us.

"Not a scratch on them, you hear me? Keep them safe or you'll regret it," he says to Paul.

His voice is lowered so I definitely wasn't supposed to hear that, but I did anyway.

My eye brows raise but I don't say anything. He really didn't need to be threatening with poor Paul. Paul didn't seem to fazed but it though.

He bends down to kiss me and Sy's heads.

"Be safe. Be so fucking careful, you hear me? Stay with each other. All three of you. Don't leave that car unless you have to."

I can hear the nervousness in his voice.

We tell him we'll be safe and someone calls for him. He looked like he didn't want to leave us, but he clearly had not choice.

I look out of the window as the plane starts to land. Sylas reaches under and grabs his bag before eyeing for me and Mia to do the same. We grab our bags and get ready to go. Paul says that we'll have to make it quick.

"Alright. The keywords tonight are stealth and speed. Get in, sweep, get everyone, get out. I want minimal to no injuries."

Maddox barks out more information but I don't listen. I watch as Paul makes sure Mia has everything together. Once he's sure of that he moves past us and stands at the door. He motions for the three of us to come closer, so we all shuffled around him.

"As soon as that door opens you guys are going to walk out to the car that's waiting for us."

We all nod at him. Everyone had been stressing the importance of being quiet and fast so I was determined to do just that.

The air shifts as the plane goes dark. Maddox warned me about this. They turn everything off so that it was less likely to be seen. I didn't know who they thought was going to steal their plane, but I didn't ask that.

I feel my heart beat faster as the door opens. Sylas runs out first and I follow him, Mia right behind me. He easily sleeps in the black vehicle and I almost topple on top of him with how fast I got in. Mia slides in after me and Paul gets into the passenger seat. Mia barely had time to close the door before the car sped off.
