"Take a the next left," I say to Maddox through the ear piece.

Sylas nods at me and we watch him lead his team down the hallway.

According to Maddox and Sy, our family is most likely being kept in a lower level. That didn't stop them from searching the entire building.

I turned my attention to the screen that was showing Mason's body cam. They hadn't encountered anyone yet which I was glad for. He was moving rather quickly as his team did their sweep of the west side of the building. Mia had assured me that everyone does stuff like this all the time, but that did little to make me feel better. Still, I stayed focus and made sure there was no one coming from any of the hallways.

It all looked clear which was strange, but I didn't say anything. I'd never been on a mission like this before so I wasn't sure if that was normal or not. Sylas didn't seem to concerned either so I just let it go.

"Adrian, take your next right," Mia says from next to me.

Everyone was going to the lower floors now. They hadn't found anything yet, which just meant they had to go down lower. Something about the entire operation was starting to feel wrong. I looked at Mia and Sylas and they seemed to be fine. Sylas was making sure everything matched up with his blueprints and his plans and Mia was translating everything to the people on coms. It looked like everything was running smoothly which was probably the reason I was concerned in the first place. Of course I couldn't just accept that something was finally going right for us.

I kept my eyes on the screen but I felt a pit start to form in my stomach which only worried me further.

Sylas snapped in front of my face and then did an array of quick signs which I translated to Maddox.

'Focus' Sylas signs and I apologize.

How could I be zoning out at a time like this. Where everyone was counting on us to lead them the right way.

Get yourself together Grace.

Everything runs smoothly for the next part. They complete a sweep of the entire upper part of the building and are now moving to the basement. Mia said we really have to be on top of it now. I guess the basement is the hard part.

I lead Maddox through without any hitches. I just stick to the blueprints and what Sylas tells me to say. If my entire families lives weren't at risk, I might even say I was enjoying it.

Once they made it to the basement they were greeted with multiple hallways with more doors than I could count.

I guess this really was the hard part.

Maddox makes an order to fan out. There's five teams in total, and they all spread out to cover as much ground and as many doors as they can. Sylas is typing faster than I can even think, but doors are unlocking left and right. I was really starting to get concerned by his hacking skills.

There are some rooms with people in it that aren't out family. For the most part Maddox just lets them run away. Except for one door that swung open. He took one look at the person inside and slammed it back closed. I guess there was history there.

Sylas's computer starts beeping and I peek over to see what's happening. A bunch of little red dots were moving on his screen. His face pales considerably as he starts typing.

"Uh, what's going on Sy?"

He doesn't respond, clearly deep into whatever he's doing. I don't know whether to tell Maddox or not. On the one hand I don't want to worry him, but on the other hand he should be worried.

All of the dots seem to get stuck in one place.

'I locked them in' Sylas signs before going back to his computer.
