J A Z M I N E

It had been two days since I had been admitted into the hospital and I was already tired of the place. I really just wanted to acquaint myself with the comfort of my own home, but Jeremiah and Britt never failed to remind me that I had to be here for seven days in total before leaving would be taken into consideration.

On the bright side of things, Britt was bringing Aria to spend the day with me today, for which I was extremely grateful since I missed my little optimist.

Silence

The door opened and I looked over to it to see Britt walking in with a smiling Aria in her arms.

"Jazzy," Aria called out as I sat up and Britt immediately placed her onto the bed, allowing the little girl to squeeze the life out of me.

"I'm going to get to work," Britt announced as Aria released me.

"If you need anything, call Doctor Cals," She added, referring to my doctor.

"Why can't I call you?" I asked her teasingly.

"I'm not your assigned doctor," She shot back with a smile playing on her lips as she leaned forward to peck my lips before walking out.

The door closed and I quickly directed my attention to Aria whose gaze was focused on my injured leg.

"Are you okay Jazzy?" She inquired in a sad tone as she rested her head against my shoulder.

"I'm fine princess,"

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure," I replied as she pulled away to look at me.

"Does it hurt?" She asked, standing on the bed while keeping her eyes on me.

"A little,"

"How much is a little?" She asked, holding my face with both her tiny hands.

"Out of ten, right now it's a two," I confessed smiling and she glanced over to my leg for a split second before looking at me once more. "Tell me about school,"

I wanted to change the subject since her worry only left me in a sad state.

"I painted," She confessed happily.

"Really? What did you paint?"

"You, mommy and me," She replied gleefully and her words warmed my heart. "I painted your clothes purple because it's your favourite colour and I made your locs purple,"

"Purple locs?" I asked, smiling and she giggled as she sat down to face me.

"Because you said what you love makes you who you are, so I made you purple," She announced and her reasoning pulled a laugh from me.

"That's not exactly what I meant baby,"

"What did you mean then?" She asked curiously.

"Okay for instance I love you, and you are always positive so because I love you I will slowly become more positive,"

"I love you too Jazzy," She replied, moving up to lay beside me and I paused realising that's the first time she ever released those words.

My gaze moved down to her and I smiled at how oblivious she was to the fact that she had stirred emotions in me.

"Jazzy when are you leaving?"

"Next five days," I told her and she sighed, shaking her head leaving an amused smile to rest on my lips.

I continued to move up the driveway while the conversation between Jazmine and Aria continued to roam throughout the car. It had been seven days since Jazmine got shot which meant she had finally been cleared to leave the hospital hence the three of us being in the car.
