  THE FORBES RESIDENCE, 2006

Bill had picked Rosie up from school after the principal called him to inform him that the girl had gotten into a fight with another student.

Silence filled the air as the two entered the house. She dropped her schoolbag onto the floor as she observed the man. Rosie's heart raced rapidly as she waited for Bill to start yelling. But he never did. Instead, he walked into the kitchen, lifted out a wooden spoon and placed it on the table. Then he unbuckled his belt and set it down on the table beside the wooden spoon.

"Pick." Bill's single word made Rosie's stomach drop.

The hybrid furrowed her eyebrows. "What?"

  "Pick."

Rosie looked between the two items. She figured the wooden spoon would hurt less but she still pointed to the belt. She wasn't going to let the man know that he affected her.

Emotionlessly, Bill picked up the belt and approached the girl. Despite wanting to run away, Rosalee refused to back down. She stared him in the eye as he took his first swing. The pain forced a yelp of pain to escape her mouth as she dropped to the floor. Using her arms, she covered her head as the belt continued to smack her body. Pain shot through her as she felt the belt buckle cut into her arms and back.

The swinging went on for what felt like an eternity before Bill finally stopped. The Forbes man took a deep breath before he walked away from the girl. He grabbed the wooden spoon and threw it back in the drawer before exiting the room with his belt still in his hand. The girl lay on the tile floor motionless, waiting for the pain to fade.

Eventually, Rosie stood up off the ground after the pain eased a little. The hybrid left the room to get her bag and then headed to her bedroom as quickly as she could. She quietly entered her room, pushing the door shut behind her. The brunette slowly stepped towards the mirror to look at her bloody and beaten body.

Taking a deep breath, the girl walked away from the mirror and went to her drawers, opening them to take out a first aid kit. Silently, the girl cleaned herself up before collapsing onto her bed.

The girl closed her eyes, allowing her worries to float away. But the tranquillity was suddenly put to a stop when her bedroom door opened, revealing Caroline.

The blonde shut the door behind her and walked to the brunette's bed, sitting down beside her. "Thanks."

"For what?" Rosie muttered, rolling onto her side so she could look at Caroline better.

"For defending me." The blonde lay down beside her sister and smiled.

Rosie didn't smile back though, she just replied, "Dana's a bitch. She deserved it."
