Echoes of Absence: A Longing Heart's Lament

Beneath the cloak of starry night so deep,

I tread into your study, looking for secrets to keep.

Books whisper tales of your refined mind,

A thirst for knowledge, you a treasure to find.

Empty the poetry shelf stands in a corner,

Much like my heart in your long absence.

A video call, oh, how I yearn for your face,

Yet duty calls, you have a distant land to embrace.

Time has passed since you took the flight,

To honour responsibilities, you vanished from sight.

Separation unveiled the void in my worrying chest,

Your presence, a great support, I learn slowly.

I ache for your smile, your laughter's embrace,

The brilliance of thought that lights up our space.

Though communication lines and thoughts connect us,

Longing persists, in this place, where memories dwell.

A morsel of rice goes tasteless and bland,

I find salt on sweet dishes, I go insane.

I'm lost in a maze like a youth in love's tender snare,

Thoughts of you swirl like the dance of spring air.

In the office's bustle, in moments between,

Your face appears in the spaces unseen.

Today at a funeral, a widow's despair,

I glimpse our shared pain, hearts fragile and bare.

Empathy flows, yet powerless am I,

To mend her heart's wounds, to pacify.

For only the departed hold solace's key,

Just as only your presence can unlock my smile.
