Prologue: Rock

"Y'know... I hate to admit it, but... We mostly won because of your plan." Ace sighs.

"What do you mean hate to admit it? What did I even do to you." Yuu grumbles

Ace just gives him a look.

"Yeah... if you hadn't managed to keep your cool and tell us all what to do, we never would have got this magestone and you defeated that monster." Deuce smiles at Yuu "Now I won't get expelled."

"Aww you're making me blush but we all worked together. But yeah it was mostly me but good job guys" Yuu nods

"Yeah, yeah, lessons were learned, et cetera. Can we just go home already? I'm wiped." Ace groans

"Usin' all that magic made me hungry!" Grim picks up a black crystal stone off the ground "Huh? What's this?"

"Is that a part of the monster we just beat?" Deuce looks curiously at the stone "It looks like... a magestone? But it's black as coal! I've never seen one like that before."

The gray cat sniffs the stone "What IS this? It smells amazing!"

"Are you insane?" Ace looks at Grim weirdly as the cat sniffs the stone and makes that comment.

"Must be some kinda fancy monster candy that it was hidin' from us! If this tastes half as good as it smells..." Grim takes a bite from the stone.

Did you really just eat that?! You're not some Gorgon! What are you eating rocks for???

MYAAH!

"Are you okay?!" Deuce says bewildered

"That's what you get for eating trash!" Ace yells at him.

"Oooooogh... Urrrgggh... That... was AMAZING!" Grim licks his lips happily

"WHAT?!" Ace and Deuce say in unison

Great now I have a rock eating, fire breathing cat" Yuu sighs

"Rich in flavor and full-bodied... Like sweet, fragrant flowers burstin' into bloom on my tongue. A whole field of 'em! Right in my mouth!" Grims eyes sparkle as he describes the food.

"Little bro thinks he's Gordon Ramsey" Yuu snickers

"Gross. Monsters must have real weird tastes." Ace says looking disgusted

"You might be onto something there..." Deuce sighs "Most humans don't take random stuff they find on the ground and just pop it into their mouths."

"Yeah but I got the feeling Ace would" Yuu snickers

"Hey!" Ace grumbles

"You'd really anything huh Grim?" Yuu sighs

"Myah ha ha ha! Man, was that great! Don't worry about me. I don't got a weak stomach like you humans do." Grim sticks his nose up proudly and has a smug look on his face.

Yuu pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs "Humans don't have weak stomachs, we just don't eat rocks"

"We'll see if you're so smug when you're sick later tonight" Ace shakes his head in disappointment.

"Okay, let's pull ourselves together. We need to get this magestone to the headmage!" Deuce says determinedly as they go back to the mirror to get back to school.

"What even was that weird ink monster was?" Ace says thinking out loud as the walk towards the headmasters office

"I dunno but it seemed dangerous and I might have a small idea in what it is but I'm not so sure...." Yuu bites his lip thinking hard.

"Well whatever it is I'm glad we defeated it even if it was mostly me" Grim grins

"And by mostly me it was all Yuu '' Deuce nods at Yuu giving him a small smile which is returned.

"Whatever let's just get this over with" Yuu says opening the door to Headmasters Crowley's office.

The three of them explain what happened to them in great detail. "Pardon?! You're telling me you actually went to the Dwarfs' Mine in search of a magestone?" Headmaster Crowley says shocked

"Uh...? Yes" The four of them say at the same time.

"I didn't expect that you'd seriously do it. And never in my wildest imaginings did I think you would actually return with a magestone! And here I spent all evening preparing your expulsion documents." Crowley sighs
