Chapter 15

Tuesday

We got up and met to get something to eat. It was early but the town was already busy. Mica came and helped me into my seat. We ordered our food and as we were waiting for it we started talking about what our plans were for the day.

Jay said that he was going to head back to the agent building and let him know that he wanted to take those policies out of our families names and transfer them to Mica’s. Mica said that he was going with him to sign the paperwork.

I said that I was going to the doctors and have them take the tests to see if she had been poisoned.

We all agreed to meet up at the doctors because we knew that I would take the longest.

We get our food and start to eat. Then Jay speaks up and says “ So where did you two sneak off to last night? I came by to tell you something and both of you guys were gone.”

I look at Mica and he nods his head so I turn to Jay and say “ Mica had a surprise for me. He bought me a hundred acres of land not too far from here yesterday.”

Jay looked at Mica and said “ So was it the price that they mentioned last time?”

Mica said, “ Actually I was able to talk them down since I told them that it was a wedding gift.”

I looked at both of them and Jay started laughing and said “ Sorry little sister but he told me yesterday when we were coming to get you that he was planning on buying the land. He just wanted to see your reaction before he bought it. To make sure that you liked the town as much as he did.”

I reached over and hit him on his shoulder, and said “ when did you start keeping secrets from me?”

Both guys laughed. Then we started talking about our plans for moving the house. Mica had already hired some people to move it. He even said that he made plans for them to add some more rooms to it for when the family came to visit. And they were going to make it even bigger. And to build a mother in law house for whenever our parents wanted to come and stay for a little while.

After a while we all went our separate ways.

Me:

I got to the doctors and told them that me and a few members of my family had been feeling sick and that we wanted to make sure that we didn’t have any metals in our well water.

I told the doctor that my brother and fiance would be showing up shortly but I wanted to get it started before they came.

So the doctor said that he could do the Reinsch test for us and started taking different samples. I didn’t realize that he was going to want so much. Then he started asking me all kinds of questions. I knew that I had to answer them but I didn’t know how to since I lied about it. I felt like he knew that it wasn’t from a well but someone had done this to me. 

He told me that he would be back and for me to wait.

It felt like forever before the nurse brought in Mica. He said that they got all the paperwork switched over and that the agent actually called the police because what his pa had done was a crime.

I asked, “ So are they pressing charges?”

He said he wasn't sure but it looked like it. They had to investigate to see how many more policies he has. That they felt like he has more out there than what we know of.

The doctor came in and had Mica leave the room and started taking samples from him. 

I stayed in the room looking around wondering what was taking so long.
