Rose’s husband came down to the park with Mica. He was still smoking his pipe and had on a black suit but didn’t have a jacket or tie on. I looked at him and realized that I knew him. It was Scott. We went to school together and he always had a crush on Rose. I bet he felt like the king of the town when he married her. Too bad he married someone that didn’t care about him because from what I remembered he was a nice guy in school.
Scott walked up to her body and looked down at it. He then looked up at Jay, took a puff off his pipe. He saw that it wasn’t lit so he took a match out of his pocket and lit his pipe. As he was puffing on it he looked at Mica and said “ yes that’s Rose” then turned around and started walking away.
Both men looked at each other and Mica shrugged his shoulders so Jay said “ Umm excuse me Scott but where are you going?”
Scott looked and said, “ I have a meeting in the morning, I’m going to bed.”
Jay cleared his throat and said “ what about your wife?” “ Which funeral home do you want us to send her to?”
What he said next shocked all of us.
“ You can just bury her right there for all I care.”
We all looked at him and I couldn’t believe that he said that. With knowing how much he cared about her and now he’s saying that.
Mica looked at him and said “ Scott, I know you're upset that she’s gone but can you please take a second and think. We have to find out who killed her and why.” “ And we have to figure out where she’s going.”
Scott looked at him and said “ take her anywhere you like. I’m not having a funeral for someone like her.” “ I knew that she's been cheating on me with half the men in this town and the next town, but I was ok with that because I was only with her for her money. But what I read last week in one of her diaries makes me not care what happens to her now.”
Ok so now this is getting even better. I sat on the ground with my legs crossed like I was about to hear a really good camp story.
Jay said “ ok so what did you read in her diary that’s making you not care about her anymore?”
Scott took his pipe out and looked up at the house, I guess to make sure that his children were still sleeping.
He finally said “ It’s been bugging me for years that everyday she sits in her chair and faces the park and just smiles like she had some kind of secret only she knew. So one day when she went to the next town over to visit with her family I went and looked for anything that could tell me what the big secret was.”
“Well I went into our attic and found her old diaries. So I started reading them. And she wrote in them everyday. I knew that she would be gone all weekend so I had time to read them all.” “ Well I get to this one night where she’s talking about how she was waiting for me to come and see her. We were meeting late at night because her father didn’t really like me so that’s when we usually saw each other. Well she said that she’ll be back after I leave. Well that night I wasn’t able to come because my ma was sick and I had to run to the next town to get the doctor.”
He stops and looks like he was thinking about his ma.
Mica asks, “ Is this the same night that your ma died?”
Scott nodded his head and said “ We didn’t make it back in time”
Then he continues “ so anyways, Rose starts writing in her diary and her writing is fast like she’s excited. So she says, I can’t believe it but I just watched Joy getting killed. The person actually drowned her and that little girl was actually calling to me for help. Ya like I would actually help her. She took Mica from me. Now I can have him to myself.” “ But first I have to let the killer know that I saw him and know who he is. But this isn’t going to be easy because if Mica ever found out that his own father killed his precious Joy and that I just sat there and watched then he wouldn’t ever want anything to do with me ever again.”
