Monday
Mica and Jay came to ma’s house early in the morning. I was sitting on the porch drinking a cup of coffee, waiting for them. I’m wearing a yellow dress that has different flowers on it. It’s the most comfortable dress that I have. And since we have a long ride I wanted to be comfortable.
Jay helped Pam out of the wagon and grabbed her bag. He took the bag into the house.
Pam went and stood next to me. She was looking so cute with her little baby bump. I couldn’t help but to rub her belly.
When Jay came back out he gave Pam a hug and rubbed her belly and said “ We’ll be back in two to three days. You stay here with ma and pa and if you need anything you have ma do it for you.”
Pam said “ yes husband” “ you just make sure that you come back safe to us and make sure that whatever Joy wants she gets since it is HER wedding.”
We all laughed because they both act like the boss of their marriage but they also give each other respect.
Ma and pa came out and ma handed me a basket. She said “ Here sweetie I packed you guys lunch. Mr Wilson brought over his sweet tea that you guys love so much for the trip too.” And she handed me a jug that had the tea in it. I took them and thanked her.
Pa lit his pipe and told them to make sure that they took the fast route, that that’ll get them to town sometime tonight. And told Jay to make sure that he watched out for some of the wild animals that were wandering the lands.
Jay said he would and he showed pa that he and Mica brought their rifles just to be on the safe side.
Ma gave me a hug and said “ thank you for thinking of us. We appreciate it. As soon as you guys said you were getting married Sunday I started thinking of everything that needed to be done and started to get overwhelmed. But now I'll be able to get myself and your sister’s dressed and not have to rush. Plus I can make sure that your pa is looking presentable. You know he can’t tell his right foot from his left.”
We laughed because we all knew that it was true and even pa had to laugh at that and I went to the wagon. Mica got off the wagon and took the basket and jug and sat them inside the wagon. He then helped me climb up to the seat. He looked at ma and said “ Don’t worry Mr and Mrs Evans, we'll take good care of her.”
Ma said, “ I know you will.”
We set out to head to the next town but as soon as we got to the end of the drive I told Jay to stop the wagon. I grabbed the jug and poured out the tea. Both men were looking at me so I said “ Your pa made this for us.”
Both guys nodded their heads and when we got further down the road I threw the jug away. Didn’t want to accidentally put anything in it if there was any trace of poison left in it.
We rode in silence for a while. Each of us in our own thoughts.
Finally after a few hours Jay said “ I’m starting to get hungry. Let’s find some place where we can stop and eat and stretch our legs.”
We found a nice little park that had a nice big tree. We got off the wagon and the guys took the horses to the creek so they could get a drink of water as I went to the tree and laid out the blanket and set the food out for us.
When the guys came over I asked them “ So what are we going to drink since I poured out the tea.”
Jay went to the wagon and said, “ I knew ma was going to make us a basket, but she always forgot the drink, so I made sure that we had something.”
