Chapter 19

Sunday

I can’t believe today is my wedding day. I’m standing behind the wagon waiting for the cue for me to walk around it. To walk to Mica and my new life.

My dress is made of white lace. It goes up around my neck and the train is long and sweeping the ground. It’s the dress of my dreams. I always wanted a dress like this. I have on white gloves and the sleeves are down to my wrists. 

I have Rose’s in my hair and my long hair is piled up on my head with ringlets hanging down. Ma gave me one of her necklaces to wear and it looks beautiful.

I’m looking down at myself and it dawned on me that this is the dress that I was wearing when I imagined myself marrying Mica that day at the church. I smiled thinking that my dreams were finally coming true.

The music started to play and my soon to be brother in laws started walking down the aisle and then my sisters threw flowers.

Pa was standing next to me and said “ I can’t believe my baby girl is getting married. Now you know there's still time for us to make a run for it.” I look at him and he’s smiling.

I laugh and say “ no I’m ready. I’ve been ready for a long time now.”

Finally we start to walk to Mica and I can’t believe how handsome he is. He’s wearing a black suit that is fitting his body nicely. He has a smile on his face that is brighter than the sun. He’s standing there with Jay and they’re both looking handsome but I can’t take my eyes off of Mica.

Pa takes my hand and hands it to Mica. But before he turns he gives me a kiss and tells Mica that he better treat me right. Mica said he will.

Before I knew it the wedding was over and so was the reception. The caterer did an amazing job. The food was the best that we ever had and the decorations were perfect. They decided that since we were having an outside wedding they’d make the theme as outside. So we had flowers all over the place and they incorporated the trees, the pond and creek into the decorations. I couldn’t have done a better job.

Now it was time for everyone that was there to leave and go home and Mica and I went to the motel and spent our first night as husband and wife.

The next morning we all met for breakfast and ma came to me and handed me a box. I opened it and inside was a beautiful necklace. I took it out and she said that she got that from her ma on the day after she got married and now she was passing it off to her. I put it around my neck and gave her a hug.

Later that day us women went to the stores and did more shopping. The men said that they had stuff to do and would meet up with us in our rooms later.

I gave Mica a kiss and we all went our separate ways.

The whole time we were shopping I couldn’t help but to wonder when they were going to catch my new father in law. I knew that only a couple of days had passed but I didn’t feel like we were a hundred percent safe until he was caught.

Later that day we all met up in the rooms. It felt good seeing Mica and knowing that we were going to be spending our lives together.

He walked over and gave me a kiss. 

We went and got something to eat then went up to our rooms. 

I couldn’t take it and said “ Have you heard anything about them catching your pa yet?”

Mica sat on the bed and said, “ don’t worry about that, we're taking care of it.”

I went and sat next to him and said “ Mica I don’t feel safe knowing that he’s still out there. I’m still scared to drink anything even from the restaurants”

He put his arms around me and said “ don’t worry baby, your husband is taking care of it and trust me when the time comes you’ll be a part of it too.”

I knew that I didn’t have any other choice but to trust him.

We got ready for bed and as we laid down he said “ by the time we move into our new house it will all be taken care of and you’ll never have to be worried about your safety again.” 

We spent the next week getting everything organized and ready to go into the new house. The contractor let us start bringing things in the rooms that were done. We actually started to help them so we actually got the house done three days sooner. And by Saturday we were all set in the new house.  

It felt good finally being in our house even if it was filled with all of our families. But they weren’t going to be there long because they had already found houses close to ours that they all liked and were starting the process of buying them.
