The Lady In The Creek, The Story Of Joy

Chapter 12

We finally go into the house and Jay goes to start moving the dresser but I tell him that I liked it there actually. 

Now Jay is looking at us with confusion on his face. He finally says “ okay what gives? You two are acting strange even for you guys.”

Mica and myself look at each other and start telling him about our visions. When we are done Jay sits down and rubs the back of his neck. He looks up at me and says “ so you both have the same vision while you both were out. But since you were out longer, Joy, you experienced more?”

We both just nod at him. 

Jay got up and went to the window and looked out. He stood there looking out, but he wasn’t looking at anything in particular. 

Me and Mica walked up to him and waited for a while. I  couldn’t take it anymore. I had to know that he was thinking.

I touched his shoulder and said “ So where do we go from here?”

Jay turned to me and started laughing and said “ If anyone else would have come to me with this kind of story, I would have laughed at them in their face and told them to stop drinking so much. That they were losing their mind. But with it being you two, I have to believe there’s a reason you both had the same kind of vision.”

He turned around and looked back out the window and said “ well for starters from this day forward we have to make sure that nobody eats or drinks anything that your pa makes or brings to us”

Then he turned and we all had the same thought “ we need to see if there’s a way that a doctor can see if we do have poison in our systems, and if so then we can go from there.”

Jay looked at Mica and said “ I need for you to go to the bank tomorrow and see how far behind your family is on their house note. And that also will help to verify what you two envisioned.”

I looked at Mica and he nodded and said “ I think that’s a great idea. Because if they are behind or if ma paid it off and it’s in her name, then we’ll know that our visions were right. And what doctor could we trust not to tell anyone what we suspect?”

Jay said that we can go to the next town over and just tell them that we’d like a full check up because we haven’t been feeling good and that we wanted him to check to make sure that we don’t have any kind of metals in our well water.” “ That way if they do find it then we can just say that it came from the well since we all live so close to each other.”

I walked over to the window and looked out at the little garden, my garden and told Jay “ I’m sorry we got you involved in this but I couldn’t think of anyone else that would believe us and not think that we had lost our minds.”

Jay walked up to me and turned me to face him. He kissed my forehead and gave me a hug and said “ Of course I believe you. You're my twin and I can feel that what you're saying is true and you’ve never lied to me before so I know that you're not lying now. We just have to figure out why you two experienced this and if it’s true what are we going to do.”

That was the problem. What do we do if we find poison in our system? And how do we prove that it came from Mr Wilson. But first we had to go and get checked out.

Mica apologized to us saying “ I knew that my pa did some crazy things but to actually go this far is crazy to me. If Joy hadn't had the same vision then I would have thought that it was just a crazy dream. But now I don’t know what to think.” “ Like how did we see the same thing?”

Jay and I couldn’t understand it either. The only thing that I could think of was. Maybe we heard him at one point about what he was doing but didn’t pay him any attention. Maybe he was saying it but not saying it.

Jay said “ Ok so we're leaving tomorrow to head to the doctor. But we're just going to tell the family that we're taking you guys for a check up so they don’t get suspicious..”

I looked at him and asked him about Pam. “ Do you think Pam will be safe until we get back? We’re going to be gone for almost two days.”

Jay said “ I've already thought of that. I’m having her stay with our parents just to make sure that she’s safe.” ‘ I’ll just tell them that I wanted to make sure that I don’t have to worry about her, you know the overprotective husband and all.”

We all agreed to the plan so far and started walking back to the house. 

When we got back to the house everyone was waiting for us. 

Ma looked at us and said “ so we were thinking about when you two are getting married.”

Before I could say anything Mica said “ We’ve decided that we’re getting married Next Sunday. We figured that the whole family will be together anyways and the dress is done so why wait.”

I looked at Mica and he looked at me and he was asking me if I was okay with this. I looked back at him and nodded my head. And smiled. 

He took my hand and said “ Oh and instead of you ladies cooking and preparing everything we decided that tomorrow we are going to the next town and hire one of their caterers there for the wedding. That way you ladies can focus on yourselves for a change.”

Me and Jay looked at each other out the corner of our eyes and we both thought ‘ now that’s a better excuse then what we came up with’

Mica looked at Pam and said “ Jay is going with us, he’s going to be driving the wagon, so you’re going to stay with his parents so he knows that you’re fine. You know how protective he is of you, especially knowing you're with child.”

The family were looking at Mica like he was the man of the family

Pam nodded her head and said “ yes that’s fine I can stay with them. When we get home I'll pack a bag for us.”

Ma nodded her head and said, “ Pam, you can take Joy’s room since she’s going to be gone.”

Then Mr Wilson spoke up and said “ Wait, why are you guys going to spend money on a caterer when the women can make the food and everything? That doesn’t make sense. We don’t have the money to do all that.”

Mica looked him dead in the face and said “ I’m paying for it. I’ve been saving money so Joy could have the wedding that she wants. And she wants our ma’s to relax that day and not have to worry about cooking, decorating and just focus on themselves.”

Mica turned to me and said “ I’m taking you home so you can start packing your stuff so we can start moving it into our house. And while you're doing that I'm coming back here and I’m going to make a few changes on the house. So let's go.”

I took Mica’s hand and we left.

Everyone just stood there because they had never seen this side of Mica. I had never seen this side of him either but I was liking it. I saw the man that he was turning into. My protector.
