I stood on the sidelines, watching the others play basketball. I wasn't much of an athlete, so I usually just watched the others play. Today, though, I couldn't help but feel a little jealous. It seemed like everyone was having so much fun, and I was just there, watching. As I stood there, I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I turned around to see Jeremy standing there, a smile on his face. "Hey, Ose," he said. "Do you want to play?"

I hesitated for a moment, not sure what to say. I didn't want to be a bother, but I also didn't want to be left out. "Um, sure, I guess," I finally said, trying to sound casual. Jeremy smiled. "Great! We're playing teams, so you'll be on my team," he said, walking over to the others to tell them. I felt a little nervous, but I also felt a sense of relief. At least I wasn't just standing on the sidelines anymore. I was actually part of the game.

The game began, and I tried my best to keep up. It wasn't easy, and I knew I wasn't as good as the others, but I did my best. As the game progressed, I started to feel more confident. I made a few good passes, and even managed to score a few points. I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. Even though I wasn't the best player, I was doing my best, and that was all that mattered. When the game ended, I felt exhausted, but happy. I'd actually had fun, and that was more than I could have hoped for.

As I caught my breath, I felt someone's hand wrap around my waist. Startled, I slowly opened my eyes to see Jeremy standing in front of me. Our eyes met, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. Then, Aisha let out a loud cough, breaking the spell. "Oh, thanks," I stammered, feeling my cheeks turn red. I quickly turned my attention back to the game, trying to act like nothing had happened. But inside, my heart was racing.

As I watched Ose struggling to keep her balance, I knew I had to act fast. I rushed over to her and caught her before she fell. She looked up at me, her dark brown eyes wide with surprise. I held her gaze for a moment, before Aisha's loud cough broke the spell. "Sorry about that," I said, trying to play it cool. But inside, my heart was racing. I had never felt so close to someone before, and I couldn't help but wonder if she felt the same way.

I took a seat on the bench next to Ose, trying to regain my composure. I was still a little breathless from the game, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Just then, I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I turned to see Ose offering me her water bottle. "Do you want some?" she asked, her voice soft and gentle. I took the bottle, our fingers brushing against each other as I did so. "Thanks," I said, trying to sound casual. But inside, I couldn't help but feel a flutter in my chest.

I was at home when my mom called me into the kitchen. "Jeremy, your dad and brother will be back home soon," she said. "Would you please go pick them up from the airport?" I nodded, even though I felt a bit nervous. My dad was one of the richest men in Nigeria, and my mom owned her own fashion brand. They were both very successful, and I admired them for that. But sometimes I felt like I couldn't live up to their expectations. As we drove to the airport, I kept thinking about how I could possibly make them proud.

As I stepped out of the car, I saw my dad and brothers approaching from the tarmac. They were just returning from a trip to Paris, and they looked a bit jet-lagged but happy to be home. "Hey there, guys!" I called out to them. They smiled and waved back. I noticed that they were both carrying large shopping bags, no doubt filled with souvenirs from their trip. I couldn't wait to hear all about their adventures.

My dad's face lit up when he saw me, and he rushed over to give me a big hug. "Oh, it's so good to have you back!" he said, patting me on the back. My brothers, Jethro and Jason, followed close behind, each of them giving me a big hug as well. "How was your trip?" I asked them. "It was amazing!" Jethro exclaimed. "The food, the sights, the people - everything was so incredible!" Jason nodded enthusiastically. "It really was an unforgettable trip," he agreed.

"Ugh, you're right, school is important," I said, sounding a little defeated. "But it's hard not to feel a little jealous when I hear about all the fun you guys had." My dad gave me a sympathetic look. "I know it's tough, but it's all for your future," he said. "In the meantime, I got you a little something to make up for missing out." He pulled out a brand-new iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I let out a gasp of excitement. "No way! This is the latest model!" I said, amazed. My dad smiled.

"Anything for my babies!" my dad said, beaming with pride. As we walked towards the house, we heard the sound of someone calling from inside. "Welcome home!" my mom said, opening the front door. "Dinner's ready!" she said, gesturing towards the dining room, where a mouth-watering spread of jollof rice and chicken was waiting for us. Two of our maids were setting the table, and the smell of delicious food filled the air. I couldn't wait to dig in.

We all sat down at the table, and my mom served each of us a heaping plate of jollof rice and chicken. "Itadakimasu!" my dad said, the Japanese word for "Let's eat!" before digging in. I followed suit, and soon my mouth was full of savory rice, perfectly spiced chicken, and a tangy tomato sauce. My mom watched us, a satisfied smile on her face. "So, tell me all about Paris!" she said, eager to hear about our trip. We recounted our adventures, and my mom listened with rapt attention.

I listened to Jethro and Jason tell my mom about the trip, but my thoughts kept drifting back to my brand-new iPhone. I couldn't wait to unbox it and set it up! As soon as we finished dinner, I excused myself and ran upstairs to my room. I ripped open the box and held the sleek, shiny new phone in my hands. It was even more beautiful than I had imagined. I got to work, setting it up and downloading all my favorite apps. It was going to be hard to go to sleep now - I just wanted to stay up and play with my new toy!

"Oh, it's not a toy," I said to myself, a little offended by my own words. "It's a powerful tool that will help me with my studies and stay connected with my friends." I decided to call Tolu, my best friend. "Hey, bro!" he said, picking up on the first ring. "What's up?" I couldn't contain my excitement. "Guess what!" I said. "What?" he asked, sounding intrigued. "My dad got me an iPhone 14 Pro Max!" I said, the words tumbling out of my mouth.
"No way!" Tolu said, sounding impressed. "You're leaving the iPhone 13 gang behind!" he teased. I laughed. "I can't help it! My dad was feeling generous!" I said. "So, what are you going to do with your old phone?" Tolu asked. I considered my options. "I might give it to my little sister. She's been bugging my parents for a new phone." I said. "That's really nice of you!" Tolu said. "You're the best, bro!" I smiled, feeling proud of myself.

Thought bubble: Oh shoot, I almost forgot about Jena, my little sister. She must have gone to sleep by now. She's always been the baby of the family, and I know she's been begging my parents for a new phone. I feel bad that I didn't think of her earlier.) I went to my bedroom window and looked out at the stars, thinking about my family and how lucky I was to have them. I drifted off to sleep, content and happy.
