Michael woke up on Saturday feeling extra groggy and extra tired. He had a pain in his neck that seemed to want to travel down his body and his eyes were puffy and extra painful today. Last night, after his somewhat surprising conversation with Luke in the diner, Michael had video called his family, his friends and his cats. He had missed them all so much that it was no wonder he burst into tears as soon as he heard their voices. He tried to keep his emotions clear but he just couldn't. Although he loved it here, he couldn't get over the homesickness that he was feeling. It was just getting worse and although he tried to distract himself during the day, he couldn't help but think about everyone he left behind at night.
His phone buzzed on the bedside table and he tiredly reached for it, rubbing at his eyes. A lazy smile formed at his lips when he saw Luke's name pop up.
Luke: hi, please can u be ready for 12pm?
Michael frowned and decided to call Luke instead. He waited for the dial tone to go through and eventually, his friend answered, his voice cheery. "Morning!"
"Good mornin'." Michael grumbled. "You seem awfully happy today."
"Well, it's the weekend, the sun is shining and we have no assignments to do so were going to make the most of it. Can you be ready by 12?" Luke asked in a hurry.
"Depends what I'm getting ready for." Michael replied.
Luke laughed. "Just shut up and get ready. You have an hour!"
With that, the blonde hung up. Michael stared at his phone for a few moments before he sighed, threw it somewhere on his bed and stood up. He started his morning routine by brushing his teeth, showering and getting changed. Michael settled on wearing his usual black jeans but decided that maybe he should switch his outfit up today. He grabbed a short sleeved black t-shirt from his closet and a denim jacket. He looked at himself in the mirror and tousled his hair up, fixing his necklace and rings. He looked at the denim jacket and did a double take and grimaced. He hated anything with colour. Deciding that it was far too dramatic and colourful, Michael started to shrug the jacket off but, at exactly 12pm on the dot, there was a soft knock on his bedroom door. He chuckled to himself at Luke's impeccable timekeeping skills.
He stopped halfway and shrugged the denim jacket back on and opened the door and instantly smiled. "You're right on time."
"I am, and so are-" Luke halted.
Michael watched as Luke's eyes widened slightly as he eyed the jacket Michael was wearing. It caused the black-haired boy to shift uncomfortably under Luke's stare. Luke couldn't really believe it. Michael was actually wearing a coloured jacket for once.
"Too much?" Michael asked in uncertainty, glancing down.
"No!" Luke scoffed. "You look great."
"Are you sure? I feel too..."
"Bright?" Luke finished off with a laugh. "You don't look too bright, Michael. Not that I don't love your usual colour, because I do. I just think you look insanely good right now. Keep it on."
Michael grinned. "Are you hitting on me, Hemmings?"
Luke raised an eyebrow. "It feels weird when you call me that."
"You're right." He laughed.
"Come on, let's go. We're on a schedule." Luke said with a big smile. Michael threw him a suspicious look but decided to just ignore it and follow his friend out of his room, down the hallway and down the lifts. They made small talk as they walked over to Luke's car. "You ready for this?"
"Ready for what?" Michael asked with a frown. Luke didn't reply. Instead, he threw Michael his car keys and grinned at the boy as he went to the passenger side instead. Michael gaped across at Luke, glancing down at the car keys every so often.
