"Ethan."
"Cassius. I think you were right. And honestly, I'm fucking scared," Ethan cut him off before the archangel could continue.
"I'm always right. Even before you realize things."
"I felt pain two times in the heart in just one day."
"Yes, that's why I'm calling you. And also because of the confrontation with the teacher. You were right, he is a demon. Damn, Ethan, I thought you were dying. You are flawless, what the hell happened to you to almost fall unconscious restraining your powers?" Ethan didn't see it because he was on the phone, but Cassius ran a hand through his hair, nervous.
"I don't know, I don't know what happened to me."
"You know it perfectly well. Everything started to get worse when he said her name."
"Shut up."
"Denying it to yourself won't help."
"Shut up!"
Ethan was getting nervous again. He didn't know how to handle that situation.
"You know what will happen, don't you, if you don't stop it and this continues? That-"
"I know what the hell will happen to me, Cassius. I will become a fallen angel and live in limbo forever."
"Is that the future you want?"
"Of course not, idiot."
"Well, then be careful."
"It's just that... it's not that easy." His voice almost broke.
Cassius sighed.
"Fuck, Ethan. You just had to protect her. You have beautiful angels here. Are you for real? A human? Why the hell do you have to complicate your life?"
"Is there no way to make her become an angel?"
"No. Not immediately. You know she would have to die first, and after many centuries she could become an angel's apprentice."
"Shit."
"I don't want to scare you, but I have to be honest with you so that you can see how dangerous the situation is. This pain in the heart is not for nothing. It's telling you that, little by little, you are no longer an angel."
"What?"
"Be careful. You already know the rules."
Cassius hung up.
If it was better for angels not to fall in love, why could they feel love? Damn angelic nature. Someone knocked on the door and interrupted his thoughts.
"Who is it?" he asked from inside.
"It's me."
Ethan froze when he heard Aurora's voice on the other side.
"And... what do you want?"
"Can you open for me? It will be easier to talk. I want to know how you are doing."
"I'm OK. You can leave."
There was a moment of silence.
"You are definitely not OK."
"Why do you say that?" he said, as he finally opened the door.
Aurora didn't expect him to end up opening and her face showed surprise. She noticed for the first time that Ethan was tall and very handsome, with his shirt half open and his arm resting on the door frame. She felt intimidated when he stared at her with those blue eyes.
