Chapter 8
Heart to Heart Talk
"Using excuses for the predicament you're in and minimising your situation, whether it is drug or alcohol use, is a sure sign of an addict."

Wei Ying walked cautiously into his house, following behind his mother. Yuan could already decipher that Cangse and Wei were going to need some private time. The lunch with Huan and Lings was nice, but once Lan Wangji was mentioned as Wei Ying's boyfriend, all the awkwardness began. Though it was subtle, the hint was very much there, and Cangse was no fool. She had always been a bright student in her time.
Hence, the current atmosphere only heightened when Wangji had his violent display.
Yuan whispered to Wei. "Good luck." Then he hurried up the stairs to allow his mother and Wei Ying to be alone for a much needed talk.
"Go get on some comfortable clothes, young man." Cangse placed her purse on the table. "I'm going to as well, then we are going to have a long talk."
"Yes, Mother." Wei Ying swallowed as he ran upstairs. He dreaded the conversation he was going to have with his mother. So Wei Ying hurriedly changed due to not wanting to upset his mother any further and delay the obvious.
After an hour, Wei Ying having refreshed, bit his lip in anxiousness as he guardedly approached Cangse, who was sitting curled up on the living room sofa.
Wei Ying was not scared of his mother. They had a wonderful relationship but he also knew that this time he wasn't honest with her, and in the Sanren family honesty was regarded as the highest value.
Once she saw Wei Ying approaching, Cangse patted the seat next to her. Wei sat down nervously as he inhaled deeply. "Mom.."
"Let me start this. Today was great. I have never in my life felt as happy as I was pouring out all my troubles at that altar. However, Ling explained to me that doesn't mean troubles will not still come into our lives. The only difference now is that we have someone in Jesus that will help with that burden. So I'm going to try my best not to yell at you or get angry. You know, I never do that with my children and you and Yuan are my pride. But as your mother, I need to know exactly why Lan Wangji told those boys he dated you."
Wei Ying felt his mouth dry. He knew same sex relationships were something the Sanrens never ever appreciated in their history and now he was in great turmoil, about how he was going to explain the beauty and intensity of such bonding. His mother might loathe him and just thinking about it, he could feel tears welling up in his eyes. But he knew, it was time to be honest. He cannot lie anymore. It was killing him inwardly.
Wei Ying took a long breath before he sighed.
"We did. Not long. I hid it at first. Then I never mentioned it when we finally came out with our relationship. But dating Lan Zhan was too much. It hurt too bad, especially when I thought he wanted Liu instead of me."
Cangse listened and remained silent what looked like eternity. Then she looked at Wei Ying with her beautiful eyes and spoke the words she thought would help her son best.
"First of all, Lan Wangji wanting Liu over you is nonsense." Cangse pushed Wei Ying's loose hair from his face as she wiped a few stray tears from his son's cheeks. She had no clue that Wei Ying was that emotionally attached to Lan Wangji. It caused Cangse guilt for not being involved enough in his oldest son's life.
