Cars are parked all along the street, making it difficult for me to find somewhere to park when Jay and I arrive at Teresa's house. It wasn't surprising, she'd been talking about the planning process for months. It was the thing she was looking forward to for today, not graduating top of her class, but ensuring her final high school party was a bang.

"Jesus, you'd think the whole school was here." Jay scowls as we get out of the car, she tugs at her little mini skirt that barely covered her ass. But she swore it didn't make her uncomfortable. "I don't even recognize all of these cars."

"What did you expect, Jay?" I pay attention to the cars as we walk, searching for Edward's new, black Maserati. His old car was long gone, though I hadn't asked him what had happened to it. We reach the house, he's parked just in front of her mailbox, leaning against the hood of his car and waiting for me. God knows where Alice had run off to.

"Hey, you look beautiful." He smiles, standing and kissing me. An involuntary shiver runs down my spine, I'd grown so used to the cold touch of his skin but it still caused my instincts to startle. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Why didn't you already go in?" I ask, noting that Jay had disappeared during the kiss.

"Reeks in there. Too many teenagers are crammed in a small house, and of course, Teresa's boyfriend and his gang are running about. I decided I could wait." I perk up at the mention of the Quileute boys being here, suddenly understanding why Bella told us she'd be coming. "Get fresh air, like you humans do."

"Lower your voice." I hiss, aware that there were still teenagers milling around outside on the perfectly manicured lawn of the Ashbury residence. It still baffled me that Teresa's parents agreed to such a big and wild party like this, there was no doubt cheap alcohol in the basement.

"No one's paying attention to us, Heather. Don't worry." Edward promises, grinning at me. "So wound so tightly tonight. Loosen up."

"Aren't you the one who always tells me to be more responsible?" I point out as he wraps his arms around me.

"Yes, but not tonight. Tonight, you can be stupid and human." He pushes a stray hair out of my face, and a wave of nausea hits me with the way he looks at me. There's never been a time when I'm more grateful for his inability to accurately read my mind.

"So I can get drunk?" I laugh, dragging him into the house to search for my other friends. Unlike some teenage couples I can think of, I won't spend the entire evening focused on Edward. I don't think I physically can without admitting the truth to him, and Teresa's graduation party is not the place to tell him.

"Maybe not drunk." Edward reluctantly follows behind me, aware that I am searching for my friends from the Rez. "They're all down in the basement, they've got a bet going that the reason they haven't seen you yet is that I'm either eating you, turning you or-"
