"Jim? Uhm, Chief Hopper, what can I do for you at this hour" the receptionist asks

"Well Linda, I was wondering.."

That's the last of the conversation El could hear as she snuck back into Max's hospital room.

She sat back down in her usual spot closed her eyes, and when she re-opened them she saw something she didn't expect. Rather than seeing Max, it was like she couldn't see anything at all or make out what anything was at least, it was all a blur. There was wind and rain like she was in a thunderstorm but she's indoors, it's hard to tell but she's pretty sure she's back in the mall.

El walks slowly forward as the violent wind pushes the hard rain onto her face. When she starts to get closer to the center she can hear screams through the harsh wind. She follows the sound and sees a figure screaming and shaking barely standing up. She walks just a little closer seeing the figure is a redhead, since that basically confirms it's Max she runs up to the figure.

and as if she could feel the other girls presents Max looks up and just falls into El's arms.

"El, where did you go?" Max asks so quietly due to the screaming stealing her voice

"Visiting hours ended a doc- Nurse made me leave" El said while wrapping her arms around the girl who's leaning on her

"Do you have to leave again?" Max asked somehow even quieter

"Not yet" Eleven said hoping Hopper could by her a little more time.

Max didn't say anything else, instead she just held onto El even tighter and somehow fell asleep.

El didn't know what was happening but she knew Max needed her, so she just gently sat herself down letting a sleeping Max lay on her lap.

El was now in the car with Hopper after leaving Max, of course getting to say goodbye this time.

"So were you able to contact her?" Hopper asked while still looking at the road

"Yes" she simply replied

"What did you two talk about?" Hopper asked to try and initiate conversation

"Umm things- El replied thinking Max might be embarrassed if she were to say -what were you and that lady talking about?" El asked genuinely curious

Hopper replied sarcastically  "Things"

"It sounded like you know her" El stated

"Yeah.. she's just.. kinda an old flame"

Eleven gasped "She was on fire?"

Hopper had to refrain from laughing "an ex" he tried to clarify

Eleven tilted her head still not getting it "Well, remember when you dumped Mike's a- dumped Mike?" she nodded her head "it was like that, except me and her never got back together" El finally gave a look of understanding and Hopper just turned on the radio.

What if me and Mike had never got back together?
