Confrontation

Sidra didn't know when it had happened, but for some time now she had lost interest in Quidditch completely.

Sitting on her broomstick, watching her team dart around below her was pretty boring, come to think of it. It was another match against Gryffindor and from the moment it started she realized that they were out to get her.

Bludgers swarmed her way, only missing her because she was so skilled on her broomstick. Regulus shot her a worried glance but she waved him off. He needed to catch the Snitch so the damned game could end already.

"Sirius Black has the Quaffle! Browne and Bell fighting off the Slytherin chasers– What's this? Potter has taken on the position of Beater for this game it seems."

Sidra looked up just in time to see a Bludger fly her way, too late to manoeuvre, she did all she could and covered her head with her hands. Her broom splintered into shards of wood as the Bludger hit and soon she was falling through the air, a scream escaping her lungs.

Regulus caught her before she hit the ground, setting her down roughly once they landed. He jumped off his broom and stormed to the descending Gryffindor team - the match had been called off due to foul play.

He stared Sirius down. "Keep your filthy friends away from her."

Sirius was taller than Regulus, but he didn't possess the intimidating quality that Regulus did which made the height difference inconsequential. Sidra barely noticed Marina at her side, trying to help her up.

"What? Can't your girlfriend handle a little Quidditch?" Sirius sneered. "If she can't handle the game maybe she shouldn't play."

Regulus's friends passed Sidra slowly, taking their time to reach him. Unlike the Gryffindors, they didn't need strength in numbers to appear dangerous. However, seeing the black-clad group of boys slithering their way across the pitch was not something anyone took lightly.

"You should mind your manners, Sirius," Avery spoke. "Or maybe the next time your little friend steps into the moonlight will be his last."

Sidra blanched at his words. Regulus had told them. She knew she had forgiven him for prying but a wave of anger washed over her.

Potter had to hold Sirius back, pulling him along the pitch before glancing back at the group of boys. "Bunch of murderers!" He spat. "Can't handle Quidditch, they'd rather kill for sport." He muttered to himself loudly enough for everyone around to hear.

"What did he mean by that?" Marina's eyes bore into Sidra's skull.

She didn't dare face her friend, knowing one look and she would bare her soul out. "You know Gryffindor's. They're all crazy." She feigned a laugh.

Marina stood in a hurry. "I don't think that's it at all. They stood up for you." She pointed an accusatory finger at the Slytherin boys who were whispering among themselves not far off. "They only stand up for themselves, they don't care about anyone not siding with them."

Marina's eyes were far off as she spoke, the ocean blue turning pale as realization set in. She shut her eyes and sucked in a breath.

"Marina, whatever you're thinking I can explain."

"I saw you sneak out the other night. I thought you were just going to meet Regulus but the papers the next day... Please don't tell me you killed that muggle."

"Marina..." Sidra stood slowly and tried to reach for her friend but she stepped back, bottom lip quivering.

The boys reached them and Regulus grabbed Sidra's arm. "Are you okay?"

Marina looked between the pair and then the boys that stood behind them like some kind of gang. Fear took over her face as she stepped back and shook her head. "Sidra, I trusted you..." She sobbed. "I thought you were different."

A pain shot through Sidra's chest as she recalled Sirius saying those words to her. The look of betrayal in his eyes mirrored Marina's now.

"I am different, Rina." She stepped closer but Marina whipped out her wand. Sidra ignored the chuckles that sounded from behind her.

"Don't come near me." She breathed.

Sidra tried one more step but Marina fired a spell from her wand that shredded Sidra's left sleeve, revealing the one thing she had been trying to conceal from everyone - even herself.

A gasp sounded from the pink-haired girl's mouth as she fell over herself in an attempt to escape. Sidra let her go, watching with tears falling down her face.

"It's better this way," Regulus whispered, wrapping his arms around her.

She wanted to push him away and scream but she didn't have the energy to do that so she let him hug her despite how deeply she resented him in that moment.
