The memory of Rosetta's screams was so deafening it was almost as though it was still happening.
Sidra paced her room, hugging herself tightly. She'd barely gotten out alive yesterday when confronted about her tears. She blamed it on lack of sleep and surprisingly, she wasn't tortured or killed, although she was ridiculed. Regulus had looked so disappointed.
A knock sounded on her door and she hurried to compose herself, taking a deep breath before opening the door. "Oh."
"Please curb the enthusiasm." Regulus rolled his eyes and stepped inside the room.
"I just... wasn't expecting you."
"I'm here to check on you, Sidra. I'm your bloody boyfriend." He shook his head. "You hardly speak to me anymore, you don't even look at me. What the fuck is going on?"
"I... I..." The words caught in her throat and looking at Regulus only worsened it. His gaze was angry not loving or concerned. It made her angry too. "I can't do this anymore."
"Do what?"
"Any of this!" She threw her hands up. "I can't be with someone who can murder and torture so easily, I just..." He was right, she couldn't look at him. His beauty was tainted now and although she still deeply cared for him, there was a hint of bitterness underneath it all, like she loved him so much she hated him. She hated him for making her love him. She screamed out of frustration.
"Like I said before, Sidra. I don't know what you were expecting when we were recruited by the Dark Lord. It was a given that we would be expected to kill. You think I killed that man because I wanted to?"
"You certainly seem to want to please your lord." She snapped.
"You should too."
"I never wanted this. I still don't." She began to shake she was so anxious, but she pressed on. "I don't to be a Death Eater, I never did. My family forced me into it, I hate every moment I am forced to live with this damned thing on my arm!" She held up her bare left arm and pointed to the disgusting mark that marred her light skin. "Do you want to know why I cried so much when Sirius saw us kissing?"
Regulus didn't nod, his expression frozen.
"Because he was so different. All I've ever known is blood supremacy and Slytherin and hate and prejudice, but he was the opposite." She sighed, every memory she had of him flashing through her mind. "And I knew I would lose that by being with you but I... I liked you far too much to really care about losing Sirius. Still, it hurt to be shunned by the one person who made me feel normal. The one person who I could actually have a conversation with without the word mudblood being used."
She waited for Regulus's response, surprised when she saw the fury in his eyes.
"I knew there was a reason you two had to get along so well." Regulus bit out and stepped closer to her. "Honestly, I thought you were sleeping together but I knew that couldn't be it after I asked you that night. You're more like him than I thought." The distaste on his face was evident with every word he spat out but Sidra didn't dare cry, despite how hard it was to fight back the tears. "And it disgusts me that I care so deeply for a blood traitor."
She let out a sob as he stormed past her and wrenched the door open.
"There's nowhere you can run to Sidra." He nodded to her bags. "So I suggest keeping everything you just told me a secret because he will kill you. And unless you have a death wish, you better not try and escape."
The door slammed with his departure and despite his final words, she knew she had to leave.
