For Mom... (Zarya)

It had been maybe a week since dad had died and I took over. I made the decision to inform the pack that I was planning to meet with the vampire queen and try to come to some sort of understanding. Of course that led to a lot and I mean a lot of backlash. Nobody wanted to come to an understanding with vampires and wanted nothing but to kill them all. My family also didn't like the idea and tried to talk me out of it and even tried using dad as a way to convince me. But I wasn't having it, I wanted this war to end and right now this is the best option for me. I talked to the pack as a whole and showed them the reality behind the war. I listed off the names of fallen wolves, most who were young and a handful that weren't even involved in war activity. Thar managed to convince them, however, I did make a plan of attack, in case things went south. At this point, I'm in my room undoing a bandage to see if the scar had healed yet.

"Finally, you took the longest to heal" I sighed to myself as I ran my finger over the scar on my thigh. The first wound I had received from that attack, I grimace at the memory.

"Don't look at it for too long. You'll get those flashbacks again." I heard someone say, causing me to look up and see Katelyn leaning against the wall.

"I'm not gonna get flashbacks, Katelyn. I haven't had them for two days now." I groan as I lean back to rest against the wall.

"I know, just trying to look out for you is all I'm doing." she chuckles as she walks over and sits down next to me. That's all she and my other siblings have been doing, looking out for me. They've been extra protective since dad's death, I guess in there way of coping, but it does get annoying every now and then.

"What did you want to talk about this time?" I sigh, looking over at her. She looks at me with an offended look, causing me to scoff.

"Don't be like that Kate, we both know that you guys only come in here to talk about something that's bothering you. Especially since I made the announcement about talking with the vampire queen." I accuse, crossing my arms. She lets out a sigh and falls back with her head on my lap.

"Fine, you caught me. I'm just worried that this whole thing is gonna go wrong and that we could lose you. The vampire queen is very cunning and who knows that she could've only agreed to the meet up, so that she could lead an attack on the village." she confesses.

"Kate, we already talked about this. You're not gonna lose me. I know enough about the vampire queen and her tricks and it brings no surprise that she could set up an attack. That's why I set up a counter after you guys left." I tell her as I run a hand through her hair, since it usually calms her.

"What kind of counter? And why not tell us, when we were all in the War Den." she asked me as she looked up at me with a confused look.

"Well I didn't tell you since for starters, I knew Zane and Travis would try to change it. Plus I also wanted to come up with one on my own." I answer.

"I guess that makes sense. Those two love making battle strategies, maybe Zane more than Travis. But what is the counter attack?" she questioned again.

"I have a group of dark wolves that are already pre-stationed inside of the vampire territory near our meet up point. Then I'll have some more stationed further down the border to make sure there are no crossings from the sides. Then there's the original plan, where I have you guys with me and some others to protect me. Oh and before I forget I do have some wolves stationed in the trees to spot any flying bats crossing overhead." I informed her as I recalled my plan.

"That's actually a good plan, sis. You really thought about this whole thing." she said looking up at me with a warm smile.

"Yes, I have. I want this war to end Kate. Too many wolves have died, some younger than me or the same age as Zane. I don't want to lose any more family or friends because of some stupid war. Dad told me that mom wanted the war to end before she had me, but it never ended. I want to give this to mom and to dad." I confessed as I stopped stroking her hair as I remembered the things that dad told me. Katelyn sat up and turned to look at me.

"Zay.." she started before she was interrupted by Travis running in.

"Hey Zay, Kate did y-" he started to say before looking up at us, sensing the tension in the room.

"Did I come in at a bad time?" he asked as he let his ears down and took a couple steps back.

"No, everything's fine. We were just having a talk. What were you about to say,Trav?" I assure him, Katelyn giving me a knowing look.

"Oh, um. I was just going to say whether you heard the news from the Queen yet?" he mumbled.

"News from the Queen? What news?" I asked him, concerned, since no one has updated me on any news.

"Yeah, apparently she wants to meet sooner than you had scheduled and is planning to meet you tonight." he said in a rush.

"What?! Tonight! But I'm not ready to face her yet. Did she mention why she wanted to meet so soon?" I exclaim standing up, Katelyn standing up with me.

"No, she only said she wanted to meet tonight. Zane and Nana have the others gathered already. They're just waiting for you two." he responded. Why did the Queen want to meet so early? I gave her till next week for us to meet. Well, it's a good thing I sent those dark wolves and others out already. I'll just have to let Nexus know the plan is in action now.

"Ok then, if she wants to meet tonight, then I guess we're meeting tonight. Travis, find Nexus and tell him, Full Moon, then meet us at the path to the border as quickly as you can. Katelyn grab your gear and do the same." I inform them, they both nod and run off in their wolf forms. I let out a deep breath and walked over to my shelf and grabbed a box. Xavier's ring was inside as I opened it. I slipped it on my hand, to where it glowed red faintly. I hope this plan works, otherwise we'll be back where we started. I turn into my wolf form and run out of the den.

Ready for whatever comes next.
