As much as they would've liked to relax and laze around for the rest of the two-week break from the U20, an unpredicted message on their phone shattered these hopes. To their great astonishment and not to mention annoyance, the coach with the bowl cut and glasses had invited them to join the Blue Lock project.

I'm not even a striker! Why would they want me to go? They thought, raising an eyebrow in confusion as they read over the, admittedly few, details. Wait a minute, why am I actually considering this?

"No way," they groaned aloud, flipping their phone to face down on the bedside drawer as they buried themselves face first in their sheets, preparing to take a nap. Having such freedom after school was liberating, not having to watch the clock for Oliver's car outside their house.

Speaking of Oliver, right at that moment, (Y/N)'s phone seized with a bombardment of text messages, the distinct notification sound alerting them that it was their best friend. Feeling increasingly annoyed, they took the phone, finding the captain's messages.

The texts were mostly a jumble of capitalized spam, but one thing was clear: Oliver had gotten the invitation too. (Y/N) frowned, wondering if that meant that everyone on the U20 had gotten the invites and for a split second, they let their mind wander as they wondered if Sae would be there too. They wondered why they felt so hopeful thinking of him.

After some quick back and forth communication with Oliver, Teppei and Niou, (Y/N) realized one hitch in the road. Everyone, and they meant everyone, was going to participate in Blue Lock, well, everyone except them. They considered telling everyone else to 'have fun' over in the facility, but they reasoned that they'd probably be forced to go with them by Oliver.

Out of all things at that moment, they did not want an incredulous Oliver Aiku bursting into his house with snacks and plenty of smooth talk to bribe them into coming with. Trust them, this would not be a first. (Y/N) wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of being able to convince him, so they agreed to go of their own volition.

If only they knew how much trouble they'd be getting themselves into...

(Y/N) hopped onto the large blue bus that would take them to the facility with Sendou and Oliver, making small talk on the ride there and ignoring the flashing paparazzi cameras out the window. They were more silent during the conversation, preferring to listen to the others.

Secretly, a storm of thoughts was taking its toll on (Y/N)'s conscience, the mildest of which ranging from Kaiser all the way to their ability to keep player soccer. The U20 game had been a true eye-opener, but that was only one game. Next time, there wouldn't be any Sae Itoshi playing alongside them. What if they fell into that dark spiral again?

The bus lurched to a stop, making (Y/N) stumble into Oliver, having not prepared for the sudden brake. They shook themselves off, muttering a quick apology to their friend before they slipped out of the doors, walking into the facility.

The various players convened in a central room devoid of all furniture except a screen and a door. There were some earlier arrivals here, some looking shifty while some others that (Y/N) recognized like Otoya and Reo waved in their direction, beckoning them over.

After another short while of socializing, the entrance doors opened again, revealing the shining main characters of the former game. Isagi, Chigiri, Bachira, Nagi and a couple others looked in on the room now, taking in the U20 players.
