After the Meeting of the Elders, Winston had insisted that I start heading out on patrol with him or Raul to start culling the amount of demons appearing in the forest. Apparently they thought that I was responsible for the amount of demons coming to the forest. I was told that the amount has increased tenfold since I have joined the village.
Out on patrol I was joined by Winston and Everest. It had been a month since the meeting, and we were out to cull the demons of the forest. Having had to go out with Winston every morning since the meeting, I was already pretty familiar with the kinds of demons popping up around the forest regions. Today we were back by Mount Sulos, where I had come to the forest. We were out hunting another Giant Boar roaming near the area. Apparently the mountain is something like where the creatures that turn into these Giants, live and reproduce within the forest.
We came across an open clearing with our target sleeping in the center of it. Winston turned to me and stated, "Now seems like a good time to test out that spell of yours that turns demons back to their previous forms. Go ahead and give it a try. I'll back you up if it gets hairy." He then pushed me out into the clearing towards the Giant creature. It was only about a quarter of the size of the one I met on my way adventure into the forest. Not to say it wasn't as threatening. It was still clearly dangerous, with giant tusks capable of gutting a person in one swipe. I had been learning how to use the -Cleanse- spell on demons and the like and have figured out three things about it. One is that it will clear a target of any non-fatal malady as long as I have a large enough mana capacity to sustain the malady myself for a limited time. Second is that it will cure anything affected by miasma, be it demons, objects, or entire regions. Although the stipulation is to this one is the amount of mana I have currently to use for the spell compared to the amount of miasma I am trying to cleanse. And lastly it takes at least five seconds for me to circulate the mana around for this spell.
To help with this last one, I scoured the books and scrolls within my room once again and found another spell left in a scroll on the bottom of a pile. This spell is called -Time Dilation- and it allows me to process information at a hundred times the speed of normal. It makes it seem like everything moves incredibly slowly, so much so to where, I can even make out Everest when he is running at full speed.
I used -Time Dilation- as I was walking towards the Giant Boar. As I finished the circulation of the mana, the world instantly slowed down to a crawl, and the Giant Boar awoke seeing me. It was moving incredibly slowly as I walked up to it. To an outsider it must have looked like I was teleporting to the side of the creature. When I got to its side, I started the circulation of mana for the -Cleanse- spell. As I finished the spell, the creature turned towards me. I released my -Time Dilation- spell and it suddenly transformed with a *poof* and looked just like any other small tusked boar roamed the mountainside. I turned around to face Winston with a smile on my face,
"I finally succeeded. It took an entire month and another spell added on, but I did it. I have cleared the miasma of the closest thing to a Calamity level creature. I feel almost ready to go after the Leviathan. Though I'd like to come up with a concrete plan before I go after it. We are finally one step closer. As for today, I'd say a job well done, wouldn't you Winston." I asked of him when I finished my spiel.
"Oh how marvelous. To think we would be able to return the creatures of the forest to normal. It never even crossed my mind to think such a possibility existed. I fully agree with you there Roy, a job well done indeed. And with that our tasks for today are already completed, and its barely lunchtime. It used to take me and Raul at least until dinnertime to finish with our tasks. Let's go get some lunch since we're all done already. I don't know about you but I'm famished after today." Winston said with the smirk that I knew to expect from him by now.
