Tak, Orion, and I followed Hannah and the dogs through the door and all the way into a large room that was lined with dog kennels.
"She's in the last one." Orion said.
He didn't have to tell me though because that's where Ares and Titan were. They were pressed against the cage and I could see small hands alternating between petting them both. I could also see that those hands were tied together.
Tak, the altruistic that he is, rushed ahead of Orion and I. Ares and Titan both moved to the side as Tak opened the door and the girl moved as fast as she could to the back. Her hair was a mess and concealed almost all of her face. Her feet were tied together like her hands and she had bruises covering almost every inch of skin I could see, which was a lot considering the barely there dress she wore.
"We're not going to hurt you." Tak said.
"That's what I told her and she bit me anyway." Orion complained, still holding his injured hand.
Sure enough when Tak moved to untie her hands, she tried to bite him.
"Rae! It's okay. I'm here." Hannah called, stepping closer. The girl started shaking her head, crying, and trying to make herself as small as possible, attempting to curl into a ball.
Something on the ground caught Hannah's eye and she reached down to pick it up, a small gasp leaving her as she realized something. She quickly turned, looked at me, and then moved to push past Tak. Crouching down to her level, she handed whatever she had picked up to the girl, apparently named Rae.
"Your miracle came, Rae. Look. You held on to hope long enough."
Rae looked at whatever Hannah had given her and then slowly lifted her head. Her hair fell away so I could see most of her face and I felt like my heart stopped. She looked at Tak briefly before her eyes found mine and widened.
"He killed Cosmo, Rae. He killed Bates too. We're free now." Hannah spoke softly, slowly moving for her hands. In order to reach them, she had to move in a way that blocked Rae from seeing me which caused her to jerk back at the last second and hide her hands in her lap. What surprised me was that Ares and Titan both growled at Hannah seemingly for getting to close to touching Rae.
"Let me."
Hannah and Tak both moved out and allowed me to get inside. I crouched down and got an even better look at her face. Fuck. She was gorgeous and she looked so...delicate. Fuck. I clenched my jaw shut as thousands of thoughts and urges flooded my head. The urge to protect her. The urge to bring that Cosmo fucker back to life so I kill him more painfully. The urge to lock her up in my house and never let her go.
