(Astraea's POV)
I couldn't fight against the smile that broke out on my face from where I sat in his office. He was at his desk partaking in some sort of virtual meeting. I couldn't see his screen but I could hear people talking. Every once in a while Vas would say something but he mainly just listened and took some notes.
He had his sleeves pushed up to the point that I could see the white bandage on his bicep peeking out. Every time I thought that one and the one on his chest, my breathing picked up and I squirmed a bit in my seat.
Ares laid in the floor at my feet and would open his eyes to look at me every time I moved. He was like Vas in that way. Every time I moved, Vas would look my way and give me a small smile which I would return with my own.
We arrived at his office around 7 in the morning so he could get as much done as possible. I took a small nap on the couch across from his desk until around 9:30 when his meeting started. It's been two hours since then and lunch is set to be delivered at any time. His sister could show up at any moment too. I was looking forward to the food but not to her showing up.
A knock on the door sounded just as he started to end the meeting. Making a motion with his hand, I rushed over to the door to answer it.
"Delivery." Tak said, holding two bags in his hands. He came inside and placed them on the table in front of the couch. "Anything else?"
"That's all." Vas answered, standing from his chair. "Go enjoy your lunch. Remind Kastor that we're leaving at 3."
"You got it. Enjoy your food. They'll send Saina up when she arrives."
I stood silently and watched as Vas opened the bags, collected our food, and carried it over to his desk. Once he had everything set, he sat back down and waved me over. Practically running in my socks, I made my way over and made myself comfortable on his lap.
"Not there?" I asked, pointing over to the table.
"No room for her over here." He winked.
Giving him a smile, I gave his cheek a kiss as the office door opened and his sister came walking in.
"I see you started without me."
"Don't have time to wait for you. I've got stuff to do and places to go."
"Like taking her to the Dr. Petinos?"
"How is it that you seem to know all of my business?" He asked, stiffening around me.
"I hear things." She stated, walking over and taking a seat on the couch. She snarled her nose just enough for me to see as she kicked my shoes away from where they had been laying before placing her purse down and opening up her food.
Minutes passed by spent in total silence. I think she was hoping he'd break first and say something, but he pretended she wasn't there.
He kept a possessive hold on me in his lap and alternated between feeding himself and feeding me. We've had...brief discussions in the past about me being perfectly able to feed myself. The end result of our last discussion was that I could feed myself when I sat in my own seat which didn't happen very often because I quite liked sitting on his lap. It was where I felt the safest. If someone wanted to get to me then they'd have to rip me out of his arms and, between him and Ares, no one would ever get that close.
I was the first to break the silence, but I didn't speak to her.
"Ares." I called softly, grabbing a piece of chicken and holding it under the desk. He'd followed me over when I'd gotten up from the couch and laid down in front of Vas's desk. He gently took the chicken from my hand and licked my fingers clean all while I smiled at him.
