(Astraea's POV)

They were an interesting duo, connected in some unforeseen way. That was the conclusion I'd come to in the of two hours that I watched them.

After we left the basement and Tak called several men to come over and clean up, Vasileios took me to his office that was down the hall from the kitchen. Telling me he had some things to do, he sat me down on the couch that was against the right wall and then went to his desk. Ares followed us and laid down on a dog bed that was behind the desk.

For two hours I watched him work and watched Ares lay behind the desk. When Vasileios got angry it was like Ares became angry. His body would become stiff, he raised his hackles, and his ears were up and forward.

"They've always been like that." Tak spoke, taking a seat beside me.

I gave him a questioning look.

"Ares and Vasileios. They...feed off each others emotions. Mainly it's Ares feeding off his. It's like he takes whatever emotion Vasileios is feeling and makes it his own. Makes them scary at times even to me. Vasileios is... a goofball a good portion of the time, but he's also completely insane. He can go from being funny and joking to pissed off and murderous in a second. He gets a look in his eyes seconds before. Ares is the same way. He may be a dog, but you can see it in his eyes. Ares is the only one he takes everywhere with him. He'll take all three of them once or twice a week, but Ares goes everywhere he goes."

I turn my attention back to Vasileios and watch as he speaks harshly to someone on the phone in a different language. It's not Greek and it's not English.

"I don't say any of this to scare you. I just want you to understand him." Tak continues. "He's never gotten overly angry at me, and I've done plenty to piss him off, so I know that he won't ever be angry at you."

Vasileios looks up and locks eyes with me, the phone still pressed to his ear, and gives me a smile that sends butterflies swarming in the pit of my stomach. I send him back a smile of my own that has his widening.

Tak chuckled, witnessing our exchange. "Having the craziest fucker in the country smile at you like that...I think you'll be just fine."

Vasileios got off the phone long enough to give Tak something else to do and then he made another phone call. The first few phone calls were regarding his legitimate business while the last phone was regarding me.

I know that because I heard him mention my name several times. He mentioned my actual name and the name they gave me. The one I never wanted to hear again.

He was only on that call for fifteen minutes before he hung up. He didn't make any more calls after that. He leaned back in his chair and watched me. We stared at each other for another five minutes before he grinned and jumped up.

"Daimonáki mou, let's go shopping."

He led me back to his room where he searched for something for me to wear out. Knowing none of his pants would fit, he pulled out a long sleeve black sweater.

"Girls wear sweater dresses, yeah? This'll be the same thing." He said, holding it up to me. "Now go find some shoes."

I pulled off the clothes I'd been wearing and pulled on his sweater. It stopped below my knees and the sleeves were a bit too long, but it was comfy and it smelled like him. He gave off a scent of cologne, a natural earthy musk, and something else I could place. He popped out of his closet empty handed.

"I got nothing that could possibly fit your tiny feet." He sighed. "Guess that leaves one option."

I raised my brow in question.
