You can't just look at a reference for a split second then draw it. You might not be able to memorize it all, so it probably wouldn't look very accurate. You might think it's "copying" to use a reference to draw, but it's not. It is actually very helpful. It helps you perfect the object or animal or character or whatever you're drawing to make it look accurate, but still drawn in your style. As long as you draw them in your own unique style, you're good.
