i think many of us, maybe the entire town, had been hoping against hope that somehow jason blossom hadn't drowned on july 4th. that we'd come to school monday morning, and there jason would be. or that we'd see him and cheryl in a booth at pop's.
but that was before the undeniable, irrevocable fact of his bloated, water-logged body, a corpse with a bullet hole in its forehead, and terrible secrets that could only be revealed by the cold, steel blade of a coroner's autopsy scalpel, or the telltale beating of a guilty heart.
juniper followed jughead who walked up behind archie. "hi," said jughead. juniper carried a big box of books, which she was supposed to be taking to the library, but got sidetracked by her brother.
"do you think i can use jason blossom's death as an excuse to get out of pe? "sorry, coach, i'm just too depressed and freaked-out right now to do pull-ups," he asks as a joke. juniper laughed at his joke and thought 'he's so me.' archie ruined all the fun like always and said, "don't joke about jason blossom."
juniper rolled her eyes. "what? sardonic humor is just our way of relating to the world," reasoned jughead.
"ugh, look, it's the rich kids from the goonies," said juniper. archie turned around and saw reggie and his friends. "all right, we're out," said jughead.
the twins walked away but not before juniper got shouldered by reggie. "watch it wednesday addams," reggie said. "my hair isn't black, wise ass," yelled juniper. jughead pulled her away from reggie and took her book box.

juniper sat at jason's locker, having known him personally. she smiled at all the notes and letters and pictures there were. and she smelt all the candles that reminded her of him.
sheriff keller was on the PA talking about jason's murder. juniper pulled a letter out of her bag and slid it into jason's locker, and walked away.
juniper ended up finding jughead and they ended up finding archie. "archie," jughead started. "weirdest thing. this summer, we were supposed to go on a road trip over july 4th weekend... which you bailed on at the last minute," said juniper. "is there something you wanna tell us, pal," asked jughead.
