"so, are you a suspect now," asked veronica. "my dad says we all are, including me," said kevin. "well, he can rule me out. i'm terrified of guns," said juniper, with a matter-of-fact tone. "not me, girl. i don't know these people," veronica said. "guys, should we maybe re-binge making a murderer on netflix tonight," asked kevin, making the girls laugh a bit. "sorry. can't. gotta stay late to work on the paper. jun too," said betty. juniper furrowed her eyebrows and struggled to remember when she asked to volunteer.

"count me out, too. i've got a date tonight," said veronica. "you do," asked archie. "which riverdale hottie made the cut," asked kevin. "hey, vee-lo. i'll swing by the pembrooke to pick you up at 8:00," asked chuck clayton, the bulldogs' coach, and who also happens to be captain of the team. "i'll be waiting," said veronica, as chuck mumbles a 'cool.' "chuck clayton," asked betty. "you're going on a date with chuck," asked juniper. "he's kind of a player," said betty. "who cares? he's the hottest of hot, and he's the varsity football coach's son. in riverdale, that's like dating a kennedy," said kevin, in awe.

"if print journalism is dead, what are we doing here," asked juniper. "the blue and gold isn't dead, juni. it's just dormant. but waking up. jughead is writing a novel, right? about jason blossom's murder," asked betty. "he is. riverdale's very own in cold blood," said juniper, holding up a magnifying glass and looking through it. "which started out as a series of articles. i'm hoping he'll come write for the blue and gold. and if not him, then you," said betty. "me and him don't think the school paper's the right fit for his voice. nor mine," explained juniper. "juni, jason's death changed riverdale. people don't wanna admit that, but it's true. we all feet it. nothing this bad was ever supposed to happen here, but it did. i want to know why," said betty.

"would i get complete freedom," asked juniper. "i'll help, and edit. and suggest. but it's your story, it's your voice," said betty. juniper chuckled a bit and said, "doesn't sound like complete freedom, but..." juniper inhaled sharply. "i'm in," she said. betty smiled widely and clasped her hands together. "okay, great! um, in that case, i have your first assignment. there's one person who was at the river on july 4th that no one's talking about," said betty. "dilton doiley and his scouts," juniper said while nodding. "exactly," said betty. juniper smiled slightly and walked away.

"so, how'd it go with chuck," asked kevin. "chuck has muscles for days, but his conversation is not the stuff of oscar wilde, or even diablo cody," veronica said. juniper rolled her eyes. "hey veronica. how was the sticky maple you had last night," asked some girl. "the what now," asked veronica. "the sticky maple chuck gave you. how was it," said the other girl. "we had a brownie sundae, if that's what you hyenas mean," said veronica.

everyones phones began to go off. kevin pulled out his phone and juniper and betty went to look. "oh, my god," said kevin. juniper's mouth made a O shape as she looked at the image. "what," asked veronica, sternly. she snatched kevin's phone. "what the hell is a sticky maple," asked veronica. "it's kind of like what it sounds like. it's a riverdale thing," said kevin. "no, kevin. it's a slut-shaming thing. and i'm neither a slut, not am i gonna be shamed by someone named, excuse me, chuck clayton. does he really think he can get away with this? does he not know who i am? i will cut the brakes on his souped-up phallic symbol," said veronica. juniper laughed silently at the whole situation.

"or we can go to principal weatherbee," said betty. "about the coach's son? who is captain of the football team, and riverdale high's resident golden boy," asked veronica. "or me and jun can expose him in the pages of the blue and gold. yeah, i can do that," said betty. veronica slammed kevin into the wall with his phone. juniper jumping to attack veronica but betty held her back. "no. spoken like a true good girl who always follows the rules. well, i don't follow rules, i make them, and when necessary, i break them. you wanna help me get revenge on chuck, betty and juniper, awesome. but you better be willing to go full dark, no stars. what do you say? in or out," asked veronica, while walking away.
