juniper cheered with the cheerleaders at the pep rally, faking a smile because she did not wanna be there at all. it was cold, and there were so many eyes on her. she was starting to feel insecure again.
she pulled at her skirt. she pulled at her top. she tried to make herself seem bigger in tummy size, smaller in chest size.
she felt like all eyes were on her.
they weren't, but when you have scopophobia, they "are."
juniper then ran with the squad to another spot, doing the same stuff. she saw archie with ms. grundy. she shook her head and hoped his mind would change. and that he'd do the right thing. like archie she knew would.
the song began as the squad began their routine. it was humid and juniper felt disgusting in the humidity. she was uncomfortable in such a situation, but carried on.
once they finished, they ran to the side as the crowd cheered. the football team or the bulldogs ran through the paper that the squad held up.
she saw archie and thought of jason. with his stupid red hair...
she felt her face heating up and her eyes filled with hot tears. she looked at cheryl and saw that cheryl ran offstage and away from the entire pep rally.
she looked at betty and saw that veronica chased after cheryl. betty followed. juniper walked to where jughead said he'd be and started to cry. she hugged him and sobbed into his shoulder. juniper felt jughead wrap his arms around her.
she missed jason. she missed his smile. his beloved red hair. his stupid jokes. that was her friend. and he was shot dead. she was 100% going to find out who did it, and why.

juniper walked into pop's with jughead and archie, betty and veronica catching her eye. there was a small pause as they stared at each other.
"do you guys wanna join us," asked betty. "yes, but only if you're treating," said the twins, in sync as they walked over to sit down. betty and veronica laughed.
"veronica lodge," veronica introduced. "jughead jones, the third," said jughead, juniper mocking him saying 'the third'. jughead sat next to juniper and veronica. juniper sat against the wall in the booth.
"jughead jones, the third," veronica repeated. "you know me, im juniper jones, his...-" veronica finished juniper's sentence. "twin sister. i know. i see that." juniper smiled.
'to someone from the outside peering in, it would've looked like there were five people in that booth. but i was there, and i can tell you. really, there were only four. a blonde girl, a twin, a raven-haired girl, and the luckiest red-headed boy in the universe. for one shining moment, we were just kids. those bright neon lights of pop's keeping the darkness at bay. giving way, as all nights must, to a morning of reckonings.'

archie prepared himself to tell the principal about his secret, when weatherbee and sheriff keller opened the door before him and walked out.
juniper and jughead were having a small argument when weatherbee and sheriff keller walked in. they looked over and furrowed their eyebrows. they saw cheryl stand up and say, "you're here for me, aren't you? because of the autopsy?" everyone pulled their eyes to cheryl when she said that. "we don't need to do this in front of your classmates, cheryl," said weatherbee. "it's all right, principal weatherbee. they'll find out soon enough," said cheryl, as she stuck her arms out as if she was waiting for handcuffs to be put on her. "now, that won't be necessary," said sheriff keller. "wait, cheryl, find out what," veronica asked the golden question. everyone was on the edge of their seat, waiting for a response. cheryl looked at veronica then looked back. "that i'm guilty," she said. juniper's heart dropped. she got up and tried to charge straight for her, though multiple people got up to stop her, including jughead.
'as shocking as those three words were, they were nothing compared to the secrets that jason's body had given up during its autopsy. that jason didn't die on july 4th, as we believed, but over a week later.'

but anyways juniper was clearly close to jason, but not as close as people think. cheryl's family, including cheryl, know how close jason and jun were. maybe that's why cheryl doesnt like jun. maybe she was jealous of their relationship. 🤷
