Summer school was finaly over and summer continued. I was home the day after the last day of summer school. The lights were off, my mother and younger brother asleep. It was my decision to water the plants and so I left the dark inside of the house. The door opened shining beams of sunlight on the tile floor. When I was outside it was as if the heat was crawling around me.
The hose was hot as was the water for a time. Then it turned cool and splashed as the stream of water hit the ground. Leigh-Anne sent me a message. She wanted to know if I wanted to go to the mall with her and Dallas. I hated the mall but I was lonely here and was not going to sit idley by as an opportunity such as this passed.
I returned inside and asked my mother when she awakened who said yes. I had mixed feelings. Go to hell with friends. Be stuck at a mall with staring strangers. Or stay at home in a prison. Blue was the color I wore. A blue tank top the color of the sky and blue, plaid shorts. Leigh-Anne's grandmother pulled into the driveway. The sun baked me like brownies in an oven. However soon enough we arrived. The entrance was below a Tucson Mall sign with an awning the shade of maroon.
Dallas opened the glass doors. He wore a black muscle shirt with a tribal design and white shorts. His silver aviators relected the sunlight across my face. "Hey." said Leigh-Anne. "Whats up Leigh and Wyatt?" Her grandmother left to Sears while the three of us went shopping on our own. I found the first two stores to be quite promising. H & M and Cotton On. However, when we arrived at Forever 21 I was stuck in a prison once more. Nothing but women's clothing.
Things got interesting at Red Robin where Leigh's grandmother took us for lunch. We all had stories to tell at the table save me. All I was able to contribute to were acknowledgments. But I learned more about Dallas from what he had to share. Thats when things got interesting. Dallas turned towards me. "Hey, I'm having a party on the 20th, its a Saturday and I was wondering if you wanted to come. You too Leigh-Anne."
I lost my words. It was something unexpected. "Yes." I said.
