"Cas?"

Castiel stopped what he was doing and looked behind him to see Dean at the back door of the kitchen.

"Hey honey, how was work?"

"Cas, we need to get out of here now."

"Where's JJ? Is everything alright?"

"Who's JJ?"

"Our daughter. Dean, are you okay?"

"Cas, this is all a dream," Dean said urgently grabbing Cas by the wrists. "You're in a coma and you need to wake up so I can save you."

"What are you talking about?"

"This little daydream you're having isn't real. I'm real, I'm here, and I can fix you."

"Are you going craz-"

"Cas, you're dying out there in the real world and the only way I can save you is if you wake up, so please God let me help you."

"I don't know what the hell you're talking about."

Dean grabbed the knife from the counter and sliced into Castiel's wrist. Although he knew it wouldn't do anything, his eyes saddened just at the thought that he was hurting Cas.

"Dean!"

"Do you feel anything?"

"Why would you do that?!"

"Do you feel anything," Dean repeated loudly.

"I-why don't I feel anything?"

"Because this isn't real!"

"Then how are you here?"

"I took something called an African dream root. It was the only way I could talk to you."

"So you're saying I'll die if I don't wake up?"

Dean's eyes softened, "Yes."

"How are you going to save me?"

"I have your grace; it's the only thing that can save you at this point."

"You mean, the only way I can live is if I become an angel again?"

Dean nodded.

"No."

"Cas-"

"No. With my grace, all my memories come back, but I forget who I am. My whole life that I know will have been a lie. I'm not going to do it, I'll become someone else, I won't be human anymore. I won't be able to grow old with you," Castiel's voice cracked.

Dean lifted Castiel's chin to face him.

"Hey, everything will be the same. I will continue to love you because I will always love you. We can get married, we can live a happy life, but only if you choose to live. Please do, because I can't, I won't live without you."

"You promise me?"

"I promise."

There was a moment of silence.

"How do I wake up?"

—————————-

Dean slowly came into the room keeping Metatron.

"Dean, back so soon. How's Castiel?"

"Sleeping. He woke up from the coma and we gave him his grace. Almost immediately, he passed out, but he's still breathing. I swear, if you did anything-"

"I'm getting a little tired of these threats, Winchester. If you gave Castiel his grace I assure you once he wakes up, he'll be fine I-" He paused. "Cas is here? I sense him; he just woke up. Cas is back in town, the fallen angel is no longer fallen!" Metatron exclaimed with a smug smile.

Dean was too excited to remember to act tough. He started to sprint out of the room with a new found motivation.

"However," Metatron sung loudly.

Dean stopped dead in his tracks.

"He's just a little bit different now..."

Dean became enraged. He ran towards Metatron and grabbed his shirt in his hands. "What the hell did you do to him?"

"Nothing I haven't done before. I erased his memory!"

Dean unclenched his fists. "What?"

"Don't worry he knows he's an angel, but he doesn't remember the months he spent as a human, or the three months before the fall- Oh, oh no! Wasn't that the first time you kissed? Oh dear me-"

"I'll kill you."

"I'd like to see you try."

In a snap of his fingers, he was gone.
